Subject: Lyr Req: BALLYRONAN MAID From: mrsmac Date: 28 Jun 06 - 05:28 AM Hi folks, I have been looking for the words of this song for ages!! it's quite a lively song and the last line of each verse contains the words "my comely Ballyronan (?) Maid". I think that Roisin White used to sing it, if that helps?! thanks MrsMac |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: BALLYRONAN MAID From: GUEST,kenny Date: 28 Jun 06 - 06:04 AM Len Graham also sings this - possibly on a recording with "Skylark". If no-one else can help, I'll see if I can hunt it out. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: BALLYRONAN MAID From: GUEST,kenny Date: 28 Jun 06 - 08:33 AM I've been listening to this song in my head, "mrsmac", and I'm pretty sure Len Graham sung it under the title "Ye Lovers All", which was also the title of one of his solo records on the Dublin "Claddagh" label. I don't actually have that recording, but maybe someone else can help you if they know the song under that title, or perhaps someone might have the recording and can get the words for you from there. I hope it's the same song – I wouldn't have described it as "lively". Good luck. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: BALLYRONAN MAID From: mrsmac Date: 28 Jun 06 - 09:57 AM Brilliant!! Now, as for the term lively - i believe that this has been sung as a lively song in fleadh competitions. Does anyone have an opinion on this as a choice? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: BALLYRONAN MAID From: Big Mick Date: 28 Jun 06 - 10:45 AM Thanks for asking for this one, mrsmac. I hadn't heard it in years. A band called Barley Bree recorded a smashing version and I remember wanting to add it to my repertoire, but it got laid aside. I shall begin arranging a version straightaway. Thanks for bringing it up. All the best, Mick |
