Subject: RE: New Leonard Cohen film From: Elmer Fudd Date: 19 Aug 06 - 01:36 AM I saw the documentary about Leonard Cohen, "I'm Your Man." I was disappointed. There wasn't enough footage of Leonard Cohen himself, and a lot of footage of a concert in Sydney with other people covering his songs. Interviews with Cohen were practically chopped up into sound bites. During the concert, Rufus Wainwright did a creditable job. However, it would have been more satisfying to hear Cohen sing his own work than a number of the others, some of who were startlingly amateurish. For some reason, Bono showed up time and time again to praise Cohen, but without offering any insights of significance. It was as if a backer, or the director, or somebody thought Cohen needed to be beatified by a contemporary celebrity to make the film a success. The director also inserted a lot of pretentious, distracting special effects. Too bad. Fascinating poet and songwriter, and they done him wrong. Elmer |

Subject: RE: New Leonard Cohen film From: GUEST,maryrrf Date: 19 Jul 06 - 08:58 AM I'd like to see this too. I was a great fan of Leonard Cohen back in the seventies. I once hitchiked from Heidelberg to Ludwigshafen to see him in concert, and had some fun adventures along the way! Brings back great memories for me! |

Subject: New Leonard Cohen film From: GUEST,Donald Date: 29 Jun 06 - 05:05 AM Here's a link I spotted on the front of today's 'Daily Telegraph'. I look forward to seeing the film, but then I love all things Cohen. The first Cohen film I saw was 'Bird on a Wire' at the Arnolfini in Bristol as a student in '77 - anyone know where I can get a copy of that one? This one's just for you, El Ted !
