Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Central Under Water?????? From: Azizi Date: 29 Jun 06 - 08:14 AM I certainly hope that all is well with Max and others in the Central and Eastern part of Pennsylvania. See these excerpts from this article in today's Pittsburgh Post Gazette: Pennsylvania flooding "Evacuees rest at the Red Cross shelter in the G.A.R. High School in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., last night. Up to 200,000 people in the Wilkes-Barre area were ordered to leave their homes yesterday because of rising water on the Susquehanna River, while communities farther downstream and along the Delaware River also braced for major flooding.... Local authorities did not want to take any chances yesterday, ordering the precautionary evacuation of between 150,000 and 200,000 people who live along the Susquehanna in Luzerne County. Authorities said late Wlast night that at least 50,000 had heeded the order. While Wilkes-Barre appears to have been spared, communities farther down the Susquehanna and along the Delaware River braced for major flooding this morning. Parts of Bloomsburg were already under water and the college town -- the only large municipality on a 60-mile northern stretch of the Susquehanna River without flood protection -- faced a potentially catastrophic deluge. Authorities said 500 homes were at risk. The mayor of Easton declared a disaster ahead of what was expected to be major flooding from the Delaware today. One end of the Third Street bridge was already submersed late last night, and the Easton Inn, a McDonald's and an Exxon gas station that were flooded a year ago and had since been repaired were once again under water..." -snip- Doesn't Max live closer to Philadelphia? I don't think that area is affected, is it? I'm in the western part of Pennsylvania, and while we've had some rain [that's no unusual for Pittsburgh], I don't think there's any worry about flooding around here. And if my home on a hill on top of a hill were ever endangered by a flood, that would be a reenactment of Noah's flood. My prayers are for all facing difficult times. |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Central Under Water?????? From: SharonA Date: 29 Jun 06 - 08:33 AM Sharon from the Philly suburbs here... Azizi, Max lives in West Chester, PA which is in Chester County, west of Philadelphia. That area was definitely hit much harder than the city was. Not only that, but rain that has fallen elsewhere is swelling rivers and creeks downstream. Some of the local waterways are still rising as of current news reports, and have not crested yet, much less receded. The storm clouds have moved on but more are moving in according to the Westher Channel website, so all things considered we're not out of the woods yet as far as flooding is concerned. |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Central Under Water?????? From: Kaleea Date: 29 Jun 06 - 11:38 PM The east coast is under water, & San Diego is having a heat wave in what should be a cooler month with some rains! Whassup? My relatives are always warning me that any day now California (along with me) is going to fall into the ocean. I think somebody got their coasts confused. Seriously, I do pray that the folks out East will be able to recover ok, considering the mistakes made in the wake of katrina. |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Central Under Water?????? From: Mr Red Date: 30 Jun 06 - 08:01 AM Skarpi - in 1947 (I am told) in the UK we had months of snow, up to the horses shoulders, (they pulled the milk man's wagon then). Then when it thawed it THAWED - in a week. Half of East Anglia (which is below sea level in many parts) was sea again. So with all this global warming - Iceland may yet be visited by a quick thaw. - Anyway I thought the ice was receeding in the mountains near you. FWIW global warming is a fact. Irrefutable fact. As witnessed by more and stronger hurricanes and flash floods, birds migration patterns, etc etc. The reasons for the warming and it's duration we can discuss though it points ever more to the 300 million years of sunlight being locked-up in fossil fuels and released in 100 years. It ain't rocket science. Pull the bung and ............ - all else is King Canute territory. Best of luck Max, I have put my PC up on the table for now. |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Central Under Water?????? From: skarpi Date: 30 Jun 06 - 09:25 AM Mr Red, global warming is on , but we have no trouble here Yet but who knows it may happen as elsewhere. About the clacier yes some are geting smaller but not this summer thats for sure it has only been 4 sunny days in all June and heat is from 4-5 to 15 on celcius so it s a cold summer it hasent arrive yet , and the summer just started in the middle of june . And we get snow here as well all the year around Red, in June,July and Agust , the farmers in the N-Iceland are just gonna cut their grass for one time this summer , the fields are yellow all june it´s only getting green as we speak, so this is a bad summer . All the best Skarpi Iceland. |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Central Under Water?????? From: JennyO Date: 30 Jun 06 - 12:38 PM All that water, and we are still in drought here in Australia! It'd be nice if some of it could be sent down our way. Keep safe everyone! Poor Skarpi - it doesn't sound like you are having a very nice summer yet. I hope it improves soon. The temperatures you mentioned are pretty much exactly what we are getting here in Sydney at the moment, and it is mid-winter here! If you ever feel like thawing out, come to sunny Oz. Lots of friendly folkies here too! Jenny |
