Subject: RE: Squeezebox, by The Who From: Greg B Date: 02 Jul 06 - 11:07 PM Uh...guys...it's a metaphor. There's no actual free-reed instrument involved. Though I guess 'bellows' might be a fair analogy. You see you take yer...oh, never mind |
Subject: RE: Squeezebox, by The Who From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 02 Jul 06 - 11:15 PM Oh, like 'The Lemon Song', eh? nudge nudge, wink wink, say no more... |
Subject: RE: Squeezebox, by The Who From: Jack the Sailor Date: 02 Jul 06 - 11:26 PM Jes hit his a meta4 but da meta4 is a SQUEEZEBOX!!! Look troughout all of poopular music and try to find cheesy steel guitar and banjo (the instruments featured in the song) being used as a meta4 4 the flower of a woman! Subject: RE: Squeezebox, by The Who From: Scrump Date: 03 Jul 06 - 05:01 AM John Kirkpatrick and Chris Parkinson (Sultans of Squeeze) have recorded Pete Townshend's Squeezebox on their CD "England" - might be worth listening to that? |
Subject: RE: Squeezebox, by The Who From: Geoff the Duck Date: 03 Jul 06 - 07:32 AM Townsend when interviewed many years back said the inspiration for the song was the Dagenham Girl Pipers. Quack! GtD. |
Subject: RE: Squeezebox, by The Who From: Jack the Sailor Date: 03 Jul 06 - 12:02 PM Does any know how I can hear this without buying the CD , waiting for it in the mail etc? John Kirkpatrick and Chris Parkinson, Sultan's of Squeeze, Squeezebox... |
Subject: RE: Squeezebox, by The Who From: open mike Date: 03 Jul 06 - 12:24 PM is this the one that goes mamma's got a squeezebox.....in and out.... and in and out..... |
Subject: RE: Squeezebox, by The Who From: greg stephens Date: 03 Jul 06 - 01:14 PM It is indeed. I'm sure it will sound fine with an actual squeezebox, but I think the power of the original was greatly enhanced by not using an accordion. The sound was imitated by a swirly guitar, and it sounded fabulous. |
Subject: RE: Squeezebox, by The Who From: Jack the Sailor Date: 03 Jul 06 - 02:23 PM Greg The original featured steel guitar and banjo. I found a bunch of covers on allmusic.com and listened to samples on Amazon. A couple seem pretty good. I like Chubby Carrier's Cajun version the best. I'd still like to sample John Kirkpatrick and Chris Parkinson, doing it. |
