Hello everyone :

RE "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star"

Does anyone know the full (three verses, I think)
version of this children's nursery rhyme

I believe its called "STAR" and its by Jane Taylor, written
in 1806 (now in its bi-centennial year !)

Not three but FIVE verses according to Wikipedia

Perhaps it is little known that Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star actually consists of 5 verses, with the fifth verse rarely sung. Here's the complete 5 verses, taken from the Oxford Dictionary of Nursery Rhymes (2nd edition, 1997), with the repetition of the first two lines added to fit the melody.

Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder what you are!
Up above the world so high,
Like a diamond in the sky.
Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder what you are!

When the blazing sun is gone,
When he nothing shines upon,
Then you show your little light,
Twinkle, twinkle, all the night.

Some information that I have from the National Trust, indicates that it was first published in 1804, in 'Rhymes for the Nursery' by Jane and Anne Taylor, daughters of painter and engraver Isaac Taylor. They lived in Lavenham between 1786-1796.

Looks like there is a discrepancy over the date.... but the National Trust has been known to get things wrong occasionally.

I got my info FIRST HAND at the Ongar Historic Society

they have a "time Line" where they note everything that happens in the village

and 1843 was when the Taylors (father was the local church minister - would not get that wrong -churches keep exemplary records) moved to Ongar for father to take job...

and it was written by JANE not ANN according to their researches.

1806- "Rhymes for the Nursery," Ann and Jane Taylor the book itself (not the poem) authored by Isaac Taylor.

(1804)1805 (when the two volumes distributed). Various authors and contributors (Anne and Jane Taylor and Adelaide O'Keeffe, Isaac Taylor), "Original Poems for Infant Minds," two volumes. First publication of "Star."

Ann Taylor- 1782-1866; Jane Taylor- 1873-1824 (not alive when the family moved to Ongar; Isaac Taylor- 1787-1865.

Canon Isaac Taylor- 1829-1901.

I think that properly sorts the books and Taylors.
