I am embarking on operation purge. I have literally hundreds of both old cassettes and vinyl albums. I will not listen to all of them, and nor will I convert all of them to CD. Is it likely I can find them homes with a warm welcome instead of just trashing them? Anyone know of such places? Other'n eBay, I mean. Thanks in advance.

Try retirement homes, jails or prisons. I suspect most of these places would still have the means to play cassettes or records, and new (read: different) material is always welcome at most of them.

Alternatively, you might check with your local library to see if they have audio collections to which they'd like to add yours.

Singout! Resource Center may take them, or other music programs, if Celtic, places like Boston College's name escapes me Irish Music center or Milwaukee1s Ward Archives for example. I'd talk to Singout! first, though, if it's folk and blues.

My radio station, WFDU-FM, has accepted collections like this. When we started offering traditional music 26 years ago, donations like this were a huge help.

You might want to try a station that is local to you. Often the folk shows have limited access to older recordings and would welcome a donation.

I'd second Susan's suggestion - Mudcat auction. You could be sure they'd go to homes where they'll be appreciated AND help the Mudcat make a little money.

most libraries i know of have LONG SINCE abandoned the cassette
tape and VINYL music...in favor of CDs..

like what are ya talking about? long hair hits of the 1800s, rap, blues, irish, japanese, korean, arabic????

or 30s string bands, pop music of the 40/60s, folk, country & western, bluegrass...????

bundle up the CASSETTES IN THE later categories and send to me and i will put 'em on CD...

gg
