Subject: Alasdair Fraser - in concert? From: thefunkysocksgirl Date: 08 Jul 06 - 01:33 PM Does anyone know when this lovely chap is playing next in the UK...? I am a huge fan, despite only having one of his albums, but I've recently discovered that he also played the fiddle on The Last of the Mohicans soundtrack - which I've also loved for years! The only info I can find is on this website, but there is only info about past performances - not those coming up! Any info much appreciated :-) 'Whiskers |
Subject: RE: Alasdair Fraser - in concert? From: Joe Offer Date: 08 Jul 06 - 02:22 PM Hi, 'Whiskers - try http://www.alasdairfraser.com. I think he lives someplace near me in the Sierra foothills of California - Grass Valley or Nevada City, I think. I see him perform once a year or so. He is indeed a wonderful performer. -Joe Offer, Colfax, California- |
Subject: RE: Alasdair Fraser - in concert? From: GUEST Date: 08 Jul 06 - 02:34 PM I played with Alasdair last month at the Texas Scottish Festival. Hot as hell - but a good even, none-the-less. Here's a pic of Brian McNeill, John Taylor, Alasdair Fraser and me. |

Subject: RE: Alasdair Fraser - in concert? From: michaelr Date: 08 Jul 06 - 11:52 PM AF does indeed live in or near Grass Valley, which is why he gets to take over their World Music Festival every year (http://www.worldfest.net/). I attended some years ago, and got heartily fed up with him popping up five times a day on all stages. The man is a fine fiddler, but surely way too full of himself. Cheers, Michael |
Subject: RE: Alasdair Fraser - in concert? From: open mike Date: 09 Jul 06 - 04:13 PM as for popping up multiple times: that is the way the event is scheduled there are 7 stages and all performers are rotated from one to the other just like the weasel round the mulberry bush.. |
Subject: RE: Alasdair Fraser - in concert? From: Murray MacLeod Date: 09 Jul 06 - 07:09 PM ..."The man is a fine fiddler, but surely way too full of himself"... I resemble that remark. Alsdair Fraser has an enormous stage presence, and is a true showman, which in my opinion is a huge asset in a fiddle player. I have seen several fiddlers who are technically almost as gifted, but whose self-effacement and lack of charisma is ultimately soporific. |

Subject: RE: Alasdair Fraser - in concert? From: Seamus Kennedy Date: 10 Jul 06 - 10:34 AM Having performed on stage with Alastair at several festivals, I can only reiterate Murray's statement. The man is truly gifted and a joy to listen to and perform with. Seamus |
Subject: RE: Alasdair Fraser - in concert? From: Peter Kasin Date: 10 Jul 06 - 05:09 PM Alasdair is a friend of 20 years, and I've never known him to be "full of himself." He has one of the most gracious, welcoming personalities I've ever seen in anyone, and I've never seen him try to hog the spotlight. Chanteyranger |
Subject: RE: Alasdair Fraser - in concert? From: JedMarum Date: 11 Jul 06 - 08:28 AM I have never heard Alasdair described as "full of himself" before. I have always appreciated his ability to get several hundred people tucked under the shade of a tent, beneath a roasting Texas sun - to breath in perfect unision with the stroke of his bow! They follow every single note from the quietest dribble to the rousingest power chords and are totally enthralled with the accompanying dance around the stage! The man is a master player and very very fine performer. |
