Subject: RE: Harvey Andrews at Windward 16th July From: GUEST,Aging cripple selling Superman balloons Date: 11 Jul 06 - 11:20 AM What Breezy doesn't mention is that the "Comfort Hotel" is an oxymoron! It may be a hotel, but access to the venue is uncomfortable, especially if you are disabled and/or in a wheelchair. Not only that, the drinks are so overpriced and crap that the cognoscenti bring their own! Nonetheless, it might be worth braving the staircase and the bars to hear Harvey Andrews, not to mention El Greko, Moses and the Ref. |
Subject: RE: Harvey Andrews at Windward 16th July From: The PA Date: 11 Jul 06 - 11:39 AM What does cognoscenti mean? |

Subject: RE: Harvey Andrews at Windward 16th July From: GUEST,harvey andrews Date: 11 Jul 06 - 07:09 PM Being a Midlander myself I find ALL drinks in the South over priced! And the food. And the houses. However, I will travel down with fortitude and one or two new songs, although I understand from Breezy that some of the old ones have been requested too. I will do my best to satisfy. Looking forward to seeing old friends and hopefully making some new ones. Sounds like it could be a warm night...but tapwater's free! |

Subject: RE: Harvey Andrews at Windward 16th July From: Cathie Date: 13 Jul 06 - 04:07 PM Orpington is home to me like St Albans is to so many. I was born in Lewisham - apparently in the same bed as John. In those days they kept all the babies separately in one big room, not with mothers like now. Then some go to Orpington, others to Wales. How fate deals her hand. I am looking forward to Harvey. He has been soooo highly recommended. |

I used to go to the Roundhouse most Sundays 1969 - 1974ish If Harvey had played at any of those gigs I may have seen him. I did see Roy Harper, Al Stewart, Shawn Phillips, Keith Christmas, Steve Tilston, Michael Chapman, Fotheringay and loads more "folky" stuff along with the rock bands of the time! |

Subject: RE: Harvey Andrews at Windward 16th July From: The PA Date: 17 Jul 06 - 05:48 PM So after all the publicity and hype, dont we get a proper review? Some of us were working !! |
Subject: RE: Harvey Andrews at Windward 16th July From: breezy Date: 18 Jul 06 - 11:04 AM O K , its pay back time I think Harvey is the spitting image of Billy Cotton Or could have been his much younger brother. he left us wanting more Harvey was fun, very relaxed, entertaining, engaged the younger attendees and sang happy birthday in tune to our Guadaloupean guest Lea, she was 19 on the night, The ref saw her home, that reminds me I havent heard from him since!! and there was one former army man who was thrilled at buying his CD 'writer of Songs' after having sold the vinyl 30 years ago. Harvey didnt arf sweat!!! well we all did, it was hot, in fact it still is. He is one of the few remaining real pros that you can rely on, every club should spoil itself and have a night with Harvey, he pulls em in. Harvey arrived in very good time, fed and watered curtesy of Vanessa Papavgeris. ta Nessie xxx Josie did the raffle, great to have her back at the club, her kid just got 2 - 1, so she's a proud mother too. The New Windward Folk Quintet were a surprise feature |
Subject: RE: Harvey Andrews at Windward 16th July From: The PA Date: 18 Jul 06 - 11:46 AM Ok Ok got the message. Were planning to surprise you, (George was in on it) but 800-odd bales of hay got in the way. Glad you all had a good time, but I bet we were sweating more than you. Oooo too much information.! |
Subject: RE: Harvey Andrews at Windward 16th July From: Moses Date: 18 Jul 06 - 11:52 AM I thought the quintet was brill and for a time it was a sextet.....down Breezy!..... Harvey was there at the back of the room with his guitar out. Hard times indeed! |
Subject: RE: Harvey Andrews at Windward 16th July From: Cathie Date: 18 Jul 06 - 01:21 PM Christine - I loved the way you were placed within the quintet - a rose amongst 4 thorns! Loved the 'join me' flick of the wrists - the power. Bit like Shirley Bassey on the Morecombe and Wise show really. Very amusing and good humoured. |
Subject: RE: Harvey Andrews at Windward 16th July From: George Papavgeris Date: 18 Jul 06 - 02:00 PM The tongues hanging out was from the heat, I hasten to add. |
Subject: RE: Harvey Andrews at Windward 16th July From: breezy Date: 18 Jul 06 - 06:42 PM was that a guitar Harvey was playing, I hadnt got my glasses on, but I suppose the action is similar excuse me Catherine but that had taken hours of rehearsal I'll have you know O K 4 thorns so which one was the ? Thorns and Rose eh? I reckon thats an original and O K goup name |
Subject: RE: Harvey Andrews at Windward 16th July From: Cathie Date: 18 Jul 06 - 06:48 PM Not Rose and thorns then. In that order. I loved your guitar duo/duet with Chris - excellent. I would love to learn 'you never know what's just around the corner' but can't find music or chords or lyrics. It's very uplifting for a Sunday evening. |
Subject: RE: Harvey Andrews at Windward 16th July From: Moses Date: 19 Jul 06 - 04:17 AM Catherine I've tried getting the words to 'you never know what's just around the corner' from Breezy. He hands you a tape of something completely different that he wants you to learn and sing. Let me know what you get! |
Subject: RE: Harvey Andrews at Windward 16th July From: breezy Date: 19 Jul 06 - 04:42 PM Its by ben campbell at Folk on the moor nearvPlymouth, you'll have to ask him, sorry cant be more help. it is a good song though and great to peform, and even better when everyone joins in, and then you lead the clapping, oops nearly said slapping Come to the Staines folk club on Mon 18th Sept ? btw if I can get the ref out , this Sunday to the Rose and Crwn, who knows? |
