Subject: Tech: Yahoo Groups Problem From: Abuwood Date: 12 Jul 06 - 06:55 AM I can't get beyond the front page of my Yahoo groups, my main communication method with morris and shells. There is a blank white square appears and the page does not load.this is photos, or files, or databases and has been so for a couple of weeks now. Anyone else got the same or know how to clear it? Your assistance would be much appreciated. Thanks Ali |
Subject: RE: Tech: Yahoo Groups Problem From: JohnInKansas Date: 12 Jul 06 - 08:04 AM Abuwood - I'm not really familiar with Yahoo, but a blank area that doesn't load is often because you have a popup blocker turned on and/or because the page is using JavaScript and/or ActiveX scripts that your browser is blocking, so parts of the page are prevented from loading completely. Especially if you're using Windows and IE, if you've recently received, or regularly receive (as you should), security patches, one of them may have changed your settings on you. Someone who uses Yahoo may be able to offer something more specific. John |

Subject: RE: Tech: Yahoo Groups Problem From: wysiwyg Date: 12 Jul 06 - 08:40 AM In MSN Groups, once in awhile my page is offline or sub-pages are, from MSN-land. They come back to regular function a day or two later, but I always save copies of those pages and data just in case. ~Susan |
Subject: RE: Tech: Yahoo Groups Problem From: JohnInKansas Date: 12 Jul 06 - 09:02 AM If you're using Internet Explorer, the controls are mostly at Tools | Internet Options, select the Security Tab at the top, click the Custom Level button, and put balls beside the ActiveX, JavaScript, and Scripting options you want to enable. In general, you'd like to keep as much of the funky stuff as possible disabled, but unfortunately more and more sites are demanding that you have lots of this garbage activated. If you're using WinXP with latest updates, have the WinXP Firewall and popup blocker turned on, and click on the "notify" buttons you'll find sprinkled throughout the IE security tab Custom settings, you usually can leave a lot of things turned off and a banner popup will notify you if something "extra" is needed. When you click the banner and "permit" the extra, it should be for that site/that visit only unless you do something else on purpose, although sometimes when you permit something (especially ActiveX) it seems to stay turned on. Use caution in turning on unnecessary "features" since most of them allow the website to "do more to you" (they say "for you"). Also note that I can't be sure that this is where your present problem is coming from - it's just one of the possibles. (Keep track of what you change so you can change back if it doesn't clearly help.) John |
Subject: RE: Tech: Yahoo Groups Problem From: MMario Date: 12 Jul 06 - 09:18 AM yahoo did a bunch of "improvements" lately. I know the e-mails I get from my various groups are crap lately - filled with html junk, much harder to search, threaded whether you want them so or not, etc. I can't get onto the pages under normal circumstances so don't know if I'm having problems there. |
