Whatever happened to Leon Redbone ?

Although he hasn't released any recordings lately, he's touring and performing all the time. I spoke yesterday with someone in Florida who plans to go to one of his concerts this month, and last year when he was here in San Francisco I saw him and he was terrific.

I have heard his voice (could anyone else sound quite like him?) on a number of TV commercials. One which comes to mind is "ALL" detergent. It would be nice to hear a bit more than that.

What a fabulous persona Mr. Redbone created for himself many years ago and still plays to the hilt! A musician friend of mine in Toronto (where Leon used to hang out, shoot a great game of pool and be far less mysterious) talks to him on the phone pretty regularly, and just to get his goat I always ask "so what's Leon up to these days?" My friend usually squirms a bit, clears his throat several times and says "I can't divulge that information!" The one thing I DO know about him is that he's getting to the age that he's been portraying since he was in his twenties! Love his music.
