This is a wonderful thread for people in the Seattle area. I'm so busy this summer building decks that I'm not really able to keep up (or even catch up) with what's going on. I apppreciate you taking the time to post these announcements. CHEERS, Bob(deckman)Nelson (in Everett ... yellow house ... third from the corner).

They will also be presenting fiddle and guitar workshops during the day on Saturday. Here are the workshop details:

Advanced Irish Guitar
John Doyle

For those who have some Irish music under their belt but who are maybe a bit shy to call themselves advanced. Learn more about ornaments and bowings and explore their place in tunes.

Advanced Irish Fiddle
Liz Carroll
Sat., November 11, 1:30-3:30 p.m., $30, or $50 for both of this instructor’s workshops.
This is a class for those who have loads of tunes and just want to know what I do with the music; a heartrending confessional, it will nevertheless involve you playing more than me talking.

Call or stop by for tickets, or to sign up for workshops (3406 Fremont Ave. N, Seattle; 206-634-1662).

See you there!

Molly

Of course it's OK, Michael. If it's folk music and it's available, people ought to know about it. We've always done what we can to support and promote businesses that provide us with the music we love - CAMSCO and Folk-Legacy records, various folk music clubs and venues, Elderly Instruments, and whatnot. Molly asked to use this thread to give notice about upcoming events, but I think people also ought to know about all aspects of Dusty Strings, including at least a general idea about the merchandise and services they have to sell. In general, we don't allow non-music advertising - but folk music is what we're all about. If we don't promote folk music, who will?
Seems to me that McCabe's Guitar Shop in Santa Monica is very similar to Dusty Strings. I'd love to have somebody maintain a PermaThread for McCabe's, and for Harry Tuft's store in Denver, and similar establishments.

Michael (and everyone),

Fear not! This thread is for "event" information only--concerts and featured workshops. I would never dream of using the Mudcat to advertise Dusty Strings' merchandise.

True, we are a folk-music-based music store, but also a venue. As such, we host events that I think the Seattle area Mudcatters would be glad to hear about. That, and only that, is what this thread is intended for--as my heroine Audrey Hepburn would say, "Cross my heart and kiss my elbow." I have far too much respect for the Mudcat to tread inappropriate ground.

Hope that helps!

Cheers,

Molly

Hey Joe -- Dusty Strings is a retail business, not a club.

Nothing personal, harpmolly, but this thread comes dangerously close to commercial advertising, IMO. Is that really OK on the Mudcat?

Cheers,
Michael

Hi Molly,

Keep bringing those fine performances like Niamh Parsons last winter, and I'll be there.

Cheers, S. in Seattle

Hello all!

I am hereby beginning (with the moderators' kind permission) a PermaThread to spread the word about some of the upcoming concerts and special events at Dusty Strings in Seattle. There are some amazing talents coming to our shop in the next few months!

I hope these events will be of interest to our Seattle 'Catters...you know where to find us! (If not...3406 Fremont Ave. N, 206-634-1662).

Thanks!

Molly B.
