Subject: BS: New Star Trek Episodes From: robomatic Date: 22 Jul 06 - 01:04 PM I'm not the right one to initiate this thread, but his Literal Hipness might feel too much the focus of abuse should he deign to inform you; NPR has mentioned this morning, and the NYT has told us here, there is a fan-based origin of new episodes of the original series. It is available for free viewing on the web, though as yet I've not seen one through. I'm just incredibly impressed by the devotion shown by these folks. Note: The link is to a NYT article, you may have to sign up for a free account and in a few days it will become unavailable unless you give 'em money. |

Subject: RE: BS: New Star Trek Episodes From: Don Firth Date: 12 Sep 06 - 01:50 PM Watched the four minute clip. Interesting. Production values don't look half bad, especially for an amateur production, but the script is more than a little derivative (how many times did Kirk go to his quarters with a headache?). Nobody's gonna win an Emmy or an Oscar for acting in this one. A bit jarring hearing some dark-haired, slender (no pot belly) kid being called "Captain Kirk," Spock? Nice try, but I wasn't totally convinced, as was the case with the other characters. Chekov's Russian accent was pretty good, though. I think they might have come off with something better if they assumed the same milieu (Star Fleet, exploration, Klingons, and all that), but posited entirely new characters and a ship with a named something other than "Enterprise." But then, they wouldn't have been able to live the fantasy they wanted to live. Kind fun. Sorta like watching a bunch of high school kids doing Shakespeare. Wotthehell! If they're having fun, more power to 'em, say I. Don Firth |
Subject: RE: BS: New Star Trek Episodes From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 13 Sep 06 - 07:44 AM Gee, they even made the sets, and the props and everything, just they way they saw them, and one day, in a far far away universe, the big bad monster came to get the, so they flew away to a far place from where the stories started, and brought the people who acted in them to help save their civilisation... they should make a movie about those nutters, you know.... |
Subject: RE: BS: New Star Trek Episodes From: Les from Hull Date: 13 Sep 06 - 11:17 AM Derivative scripts, bad acting, limited budget... Sounds just like the original to me. As long as Checkov gets words starting with a 'V' to mispronounce. |
