I am desperately seeking some knowledge about a song that is in a 1997 Shannon Doherty movie called "Friends 'Til the End" It's the one that she sings at the very end. It goes something like...

"And I can't blame the rain for all of my pain....Does anybody hear me? Does anybody hear me? Cause I don't Cause I don't Cause I don't"

Thank you so much if you can help me.

Yeah, heck, since our songs are a hundred years old or more, we don't get so desperate. With songs that old, what difference is a week or two?

You don't remember Shannen Doherty (click here), Catspaw? She was a kid on that family show, "Our House." Good show. Used to watch it every week. Brought tears to my eyes.
I think she was on another TV series after that, but I never saw that one.

Oh, was that the name of the show?? That one was not what you'd call a "family" show, was it? I guess we'd better stick to "Teletubbies," eh, Alison??

Sorry, Majykfemme, I am afraid that most of us here are pretty much dummies when it comes to things that are outside our circle of knowledge and interest. I did try to look it up for you, and found info on the movie, but that was about all, though I also found a song with the title Does Anybody Hear Me? by En Vogue~~couldn't hear enough of it to tell if it was what you wanted.

Now if it had been a blues song, folk, or old time country, someone here would likely have been able to come up with it.

One more kind suggestion, next time you are here and need any of the types of music I suggested earlier, try to give us some info in the name of your thread. Some people are getting irked over generic thread names like need, help, need song, and yes, desperate.

I found the song here through a Dejanews search and sent it on by e-mail.

It's a great idea, if you send an answer to a song request by e-mail, to post the fact that you've sent it, the way Joe did in this thread. That lets everybody know they can stop looking.

and it's a great idea, if there's no compelling reason not to do so, to also post the lyrics at Mudcat where everyone can see them. Is the "compelling reason" that this particular song is thought inappropriate to a folk/blues/traditional site?

He included a live link to the site, so anyone who would like to look at the lyrics could. That's almost as good as posting the lyrics and takes up less room on Max's server....

MMario, I often did that in the past, but what has happened (and can happen again) is that the link went dead weeks (months) later. And then when someone else made a request for the same song (that happens too!), that song was lost.
So I made the decision for me to copy&paste the lyrics to here and to give the link too, except if the song is too far from my personal definition of folk. Maybe in this case, even Joe's a bit more liberal definition was stressed too much...?

MMario and Wolfgang, now I'm feeling silly because I'd forgotten that Joe had included a link here (I hadn't bothered to follow the link at the time I first saw Joe's message/ and my reply was in the context of Ferrara's 'That lets everyone know they can stop looking'). I see Wolfgang's point too, though I sometimes don't bother with posting lyrics if I'm giving a link. Joe wrote something about this problem in another thread, that it might be better to give a link to a home page rather than for a particular entry that might be deleted. He didn't think, however, that it would be much of a problem in the relatively short-term context of the Mudcat forum.
I hope Majykfemme acknowledged Joe's e-mail. I always like to know that the people who requested a song actually do see the responses to their requests. If the enquirer gives an address I usually do e-mail as well as posting at Mudcat - the recipients don't always reply.

Dale Rose, Phillippa, Ferrara and MMario, I would like to tell you that I found your responses to this person to have been done very well. I know it is frustrating when people who are unfamiliar with us put in postings such as this one. But it is as I was told when I got real frustrated with folks who didn't use the search engines. These are people who are unfamiliar with us. I enjoyed the grace with which you responded.

Why don't we consider a link that we will use that has generic answers for the most common mistakes made by visitors to our community. Then those of us who are "regulars" ( I think I can still call myself that, despite my schedule of late), could agree that whenever someone posts a request where they have not included the song title, or have not searched DT, or have not used "Forum Search", we would automatically refer them to the link, and have them post it properly later.

I have come to know and respect most of you through this forum, and it was because of the warm feeling I got from interacting with you. I have learned lessons in humility from you when you pointed out to me, as only friends can, when I was acting pompously or rudely to our casual visitors. I guess I am saying that I don't ever want us to alienate people. Enough of my rambling.

All the best,

Mick

I think you have hit on the way to do it, Mick. When someone asks for something with a generic title, asks for something from ohh, say Snoop Doggy Dogg, (sorry if I have stepped on someone's favorite puppy there)don't answer it at first, just link them to that thread which will gently and distinctly tell them how it should be done. And then, of course, we all have to resist posting our digressions into that thread~~as we have done here! :-)

I think, too, that even those with somewhat narrower definitions of what belongs at the 'Cat would need to be a bit on the generous side to avoid confusion. In other words, if someone asks for something out there in the gray area as far as content goes, we would need to give them a bit of latitude. As we have said many times, we may not agree completely on what belongs, but we usually have a fairly good idea of what doesn't belong. I know I haven't exactly gotten my point across distinctly but I think you get my drift.

Hey Mick...nice to see you're still around when you can be. Go check out the thread titled Welcome to Mudcat and I think you'll see what you like. Throw in your 2 cents too. I like what's already done and would like it to be included, so I haven't really got 2 cents to put in myself, except...Go For It!!!

OK. After thinking it over for a bit, I think we need at least three separate informational threads~~one for those who did not search, (probably because they did not know how) one for poorly worded requests, and one for extremely inappropriate requests. Does that sound too clumsy, cumbersome, etc.?

Also, we have been provided a wonderful place here, and as Mick pointed out, we need to continue treating one another, including casual visitors, with respect. I could name several other places (but won't) which make me uncomfortable because rudeness is the rule of the day if someone knowingly or unknowingly violates what the regulars consider appropriate.

Hi, guys, I found the song using the "power search" at www.dejanews.com. I limited the search to the alt.music.lyrics newsgroup and searched for about 8 of the words the requester provided, and that narrowed it down to the one song. I posted a link to the song rather than the lyrics because it's not the kind of song I'd want to make available at the 'Cat. If we have those songs in our forum database here, then people using Lycos or Hotbot are going to search and find them here, and we run the risk of being inundated with requests for similar songs. Still and all, I like to try to be nice to everybody, so I try to respond with a link or an e-mail, with some sort of indication to the requester that it's folk music we do here.
I really try hard to be kind and polite (and just slightly condescending if it's not folk) in my reply - but as you might have seen in another thread this week, sometimes my attempts are misinterpreted. It's a hard balance to achieve - to be nice, but yet to try to guide people away from stuff that won't contribute to the quality of this forum.
But, if you follow the links, you can find the song; and you can even get Shannen's photos and her biography, such as it is. She sure has changed since the days when she was in that family show.
Since the International Lyrics Server isn't working, it might be an idea to familiarize ourselves with Dejanews and the alt.music.lyrics newsgroup. Heck, there's even a Shannen Doherty newsgroup, and those of you whol are interested can get there on Dejanews. Dejanews is also a good way to follow and to post messages on the rec.music.folk newsgroup. One major problem with newsgroups is that you open yourself to Spam. If you post newsgroup messages through Dejanews, you can have a Dejanews e-mail account and not clutter up you usual e-mail.

Hey everyone, I'm real sorry that I posted this request in the wrong spot. I am EXTREMELY grateful for the help in finding the lyrics. My sisters birthday is in two weeks and she always loved that song (and the movie) so I was hoping to find the cd and give it to her, except I didn't know who sang it...or the title of it. Once again, thank you very much and I am sorry to have posted in an inappropriate place.

I don't know if it's actually such an inappropriate place, Majykfemme. Take heed, though, that if you post a request for a Shannen Doherty song here, you'll hear lots of grumbling from us. Don't take it personally. We just like to grumble....

And lest I be misinterpreted, Joe Offer, despite a clever campaign to convince people that he is human when we all know he is a very clever piece of programming, happens to be one of the most devoted and helpful pieces of programming I have ever had the pleasure to be exposed to. He has devoted much of his time to this endeavor and I am in complete gratitude to that Big Programmer in the sky that created him.

Joe, thanks for all you do, my friend.

All the best,

Mick
