Bob Zentz also has a website which you should be able to find directly searching for his name. There may be lyrics for the song as well as information about ordering the CD.

Bob also occasionally posts here on Mudcat.

There is a sound sample of THIS OLD EARTH at Bob Zentz' web site, from which I transcribed these words:

Ask a child what really matters.
Ask a friend what he will do.
Ask the leaders you've elected,
But the answer lies with you.
This old earth has seen a lot o' livin'.
This old earth we've used from end to end.
Now it's time for mankind to start givin'.
This old earth could use a friend.

[The album it comes from, "Mirrors and Changes," is described as "a magnificant collection of Bob's early original songs."]

Bob re-worked this song to feature the Chesapeake Bay, and has performed it for a lot of Bay restoration benefits. There's a neat CD put out by the Annapolis Maritime Museum to raise funds to preserve the Thomas Point Lighthouse, with Bob's "This Old Bay" and "Let the Light from the Lighthouse" on it - it's available here:

THIS OLD EARTH
(Bob Zentz)

Fragments of another sunset,
Ashes of another dawn.
Drowned in time's immortal ocean,
All too soon we may be gone.

This old earth has seen a lot of living,
This old earth the stories she could tell.
This earth is finished with the giving
This old earth we used so well.

Now the playground stands deserted,
In the yellow afternoon.
And the cotton candy children,
Have all gone home too soon.

And the tree of knowledge trembles,
For the fruit was ours before.
Will be like Eden's lovers,
Driven from the garden's doors.

So what can it take from nature,
And what must it take from man
For the future generations
To save the sky, the sea, the land?

This old earth has seen a lot of living,
This old earth the stories she could tell.
This earth is finished with the giving
This old earth we used so well.

So ask a child what really matters.
Ask a friend what he will do.
Ask the leaders you've elected,
But the answer lies with you.

This old earth has seen a lot o' livin'.
This old earth we've used from end to end.
Now it's time for mankind to start givin'.
This old earth could use a friend.

This old earth has seen a lot of living,
This old earth we've used from end to end.
Now it's time for man to start giving.
This old earth could use a friend.

Complete lyrics from the original release on mirrors and changes. The CD or record is available off bob's website.

Subject: ADD: This Old Bay (Bob Zentz)
From: Joe Offer

Bob rewrote "This Old Earth" as "This Old Bay." Here are the lyrics from his Website, http://www.bobzentz.com/songbook/t.oldbay.htm

THIS OLD BAY
(Bob Zentz)

1. I saw the sun rise on the ocean (C-Dm)
I watched the sun set on the bay (F-C)
I thought of times and tides and people   (Em-Am)
The past, the future and today (F-G)
This old Bay has seen a lot of living (Am-Em)
This old Bay, the stories she could tell (F-C)
This old Bay is finished with the giving (Dm-Am)
This old Bay we knew so well (G7-F)

2. When the glaciers finally melted
Eighteen-thousand years ago
Rising ocean drowned the valley
Where the Susquehanna flowed
And when Indians made their homes there
    In Algonquin tongues did speak
They called this place "Mother of Waters"
They named this bay the Chesapeake

3. Then the English settlers landed
Strangers in a stranger land
They worked their changes for survival
They never tried to understand
This old Bay had seen a lot of living
This old Bay, the stories she could tell
Now, this old Bay is finished with the giving
This old Bay we used so well

4. So those who use the Bay must answer
Who's to lose, and who's to win
'Cause when you're lookin' where you're goin'
You must see where you have been
    Endangered species and pollution
The waste, the rubble of the dream
And as we all search for solutions
    Remember we all live downstream

5. So ask your friend what really matters
And ask your child what she will do
Then ask the leaders you've elected
But now the answer lies with you
This old Bay has seen a lot of living
Well, this old Bay we've used from end to end
Now it's time we people started giving
This old Bay could use a friend
