Subject: RE: BS: Weird Photos From: Bill D Date: 01 Aug 06 - 01:39 PM well, It DOES look like some of that background stuff is attached to the guy's back! |
Subject: RE: BS: Weird Photos From: Ebbie Date: 01 Aug 06 - 02:04 PM Humph! What struck me - besides the backdrop - was the distorted effect the camera closeup gave the image. The arm is huge and appears to come from other than normal. You had to be there, I guess. |
Subject: RE: BS: Weird Photos From: Paul from Hull Date: 01 Aug 06 - 02:11 PM I can see what you mean Ebbie, but nothing I have seen lately beats that Squirrel website for weirdness.. |
Subject: RE: BS: Weird Photos From: JohnInKansas Date: 01 Aug 06 - 03:40 PM I'll agree with Ebbie, that the distortion of the fellow's forearm makes it look huge. Obviously the photographer should take a step B . A . . . C . . . K . . . . A . . . . . B . . . . . . . I . . . . . . . T. . . . . (oops) John |
Subject: RE: BS: Weird Photos From: Paul from Hull Date: 01 Aug 06 - 03:44 PM If it were a can of spinach, instead of a bottle of water, it would probably look about right.....*G* |
Subject: RE: BS: Weird Photos From: Ebbie Date: 01 Aug 06 - 03:57 PM JohninKansas, you think the next shot the photographer took would be as thrilling? :) |
Subject: RE: BS: Weird Photos From: GUEST,Nancy King at work Date: 01 Aug 06 - 04:54 PM I've been trying to find a picture I saw last week, and finally came up with it. I can't seem to link directly to it (tried twice now without success), but if you go to www.wtopnews.com, scroll down a bit to "photo galleries," then to "heat wave," and then click on #23, you'll find it. It probably won't be available on this site (or anywhere else) for long, so look now. I love the way the water drop splashes on the kid's head, and the black background with more water droplets makes it look like an illustration for a science fiction novel. Nancy |

Subject: RE: BS: Weird Photos From: Jack the Sailor Date: 01 Aug 06 - 08:11 PM It would have been a better picture if the cameraman had stepped back and used a longer lens. But as John in Kansas implied, not good enough to die for. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weird Photos From: mack/misophist Date: 01 Aug 06 - 09:04 PM Blow the photo up about 4 times and it's not nearly so odd. And he's not really much out of proportion. A few of the guys at the gym I go to make him look puny. |
Subject: RE: BS: Weird Photos From: JohnInKansas Date: 02 Aug 06 - 04:52 AM Bill D. No Java needed. Just copy the link (right click, copy shortcut) from the last page with a link that goes to the picture, instead of trying to find it on the page the picture's on. The simple minded just hit the "Back" button, and copy the link that got them the picture. The J-script bit was on the page that goes to where the go-to link was. They apparently were trying to keep people from linking and copying, but they really weren't trying very hard. John |
Subject: RE: BS: Weird Photos From: GUEST,Nancy King Date: 02 Aug 06 - 10:25 AM Well, whatever the arcane process, it was beyond me... BTW, the picture is still there, but now it's #28, so John's link goes to a different photo. Mine still works, but you need to go to #28 instead of #23. :0) Nancy |

Subject: RE: BS: Weird Photos From: JennyO Date: 02 Aug 06 - 01:02 PM So here it is, now that it's 28, but I suppose it will move again (sigh!) Gallery Picture 28 John, I'm on Linux, and with mine it's right click and "copy link location". |
Subject: RE: BS: Weird Photos From: frogprince Date: 02 Aug 06 - 01:04 PM Those eyes; I'd recognize those eyes anywhere; that's that fiance who was reported missing, was all over the national news, and turned out to have just gotten cold feet and run off. She has gotten quite a tan since then, though, and changed her hair... |
Subject: RE: BS: Weird Photos From: JohnInKansas Date: 02 Aug 06 - 01:17 PM Nancy King and Jenny O Did either of you notice that when it was #23, the link went to "pid=22," and now that it's #28 in the list the link calls it "pid=27" ?? (If you paste the link in Word it sometimes shows the actual "script" for the link, or, in Word, you can use "edit hyperlink" to see the script just for a link that's displayed as a "clickie." John |

Subject: RE: BS: Weird Photos From: JohnInKansas Date: 02 Aug 06 - 01:45 PM gnu - Some years ago I had been fishing at a small lake, and was on my way home through the Maxwell Game Preserve. A large bull bufallo observed my dark green 1970 VW beetle and the pale green 16 foot outboard boat I was towing and apparently decided "green = tasty?" and began to amble in my direction. Although a 1970 beetle doesn't have the greatest acceleration when towing 1300 lb of trailer, I did manage to throw some gravel on the trail; but by the time he decided that pursuit did not suit his dignity, the ONLY thing I could see in my left side window was his beard, hanging down beside me. Them suckers am HUGE! John |
Subject: RE: BS: Weird Photos From: Jim Dixon Date: 02 Aug 06 - 03:19 PM There's some good stuff at Worth1000. It's a competition for "photoshopped" pictures. Pick a category and browse. |
Subject: RE: BS: Weird Photos From: GUEST,Nancy King at work Date: 02 Aug 06 - 04:05 PM Well, maybe someday I'll learn how to do those links John and Jenny seem to have mastered. Or not. Anyhow, there's not much point in it in this particular case, because now the photo I was linking to is at #30. It seems as they add more, the older ones advance to higher numbers. Who knows where it will be five minutes from now, or when it will disappear altogether. At any rate, I thought it was a cool picture, and I hope those who managed to find it enjoyed it! Nancy |
Subject: RE: BS: Weird Photos From: JennyO Date: 02 Aug 06 - 10:40 PM Did either of you notice that when it was #23, the link went to "pid=22," and now that it's #28 in the list the link calls it "pid=27" ?? John, I must admit I didn't notice that at the time, but I can see it just by hovering over the number - it shows up in my tray at the bottom of the screen. Of course now, the pic has moved to #30 which is "pid-29". They seem to be one number behind because they start their id numbers at 0, so picture 1 is "pid-0". |
Subject: RE: BS: Weird Photos From: JohnInKansas Date: 03 Aug 06 - 01:07 AM JennyO - When they try so hard to make it hard one must get the impression that they're trying to discourage links from the outside (real) world. Many sites request "no links to images," on grounds that it consumes much more bandwidth than a "normal visit" to the site. In this case they're obviously not trying really hard so I take it as a "please be nice about it," rather than a "you'll die if you do." The "moving target" thing is a nice touch, and probably is done to limit outside linking. Some of the art museums* that seem really serious about it have gone to displaying all their images as Flash files, and using Java scripts calling local links. Even those images can usually be copied with a little effort; but linking is tricky and unreliable. When they work that hard at it, I usually just pass on a description of how to get there and forget about the link. * The Museum of Fine Arts at San Francisco has a very nice website (or several), but are notorious for the "protectionist" attitude, if someone's curious about how many things can be done to prevent copying and linking. I'd give a link, but they seem to change their addresses periodically, just to keep the fans "honest." John |
