Subject: Rambles of Spring? From: gstensgaard@bcr.bc.ca Date: 25 Feb 99 - 05:00 PM Looking for lyrics of an Irish song, possibly sung by Makem and Clancy. Chorus is approximately: "I've a fine felt hat and a new (strong?) pair of brogues, I've got rosin in my pocket for my bow, And my fiddle strings are new, and I've learned a tune or two, So I'm well prepared to ramble and must go." |

Subject: Lyr Add: RAMBLES OF SPRING (Tommy Makem) From: Maelgwyn (inactive) Date: 25 Feb 99 - 09:00 PM Here you go:
There's a piercing wintry breeze blowing through the budding trees.
CHORUS: I've a fine felt hat and a strong pair of brogues.
I'm as happy as a king when I catch a breath of spring,
I have friends in every town as I ramble up and down,
Here's a health to one and all, to the big and to the small, |

Subject: RE: Rambles of Spring From: BK Date: 26 Feb 99 - 11:37 PM Got the album (somewhere in our boxes, just moved again). For some reason, though he's not a fiddler, I got the idea Tommy wrote it. When we unpack the album the credits will tell me. If it isn't too long, I'll pass it along. Cheers, BK |
Subject: RE: Rambles of Spring From: John Mayberry Date: 27 Feb 99 - 11:43 PM Rick- I've had this song rattling around in my brain for a couple of years (though I, too, just got a new verse from Maelgwyn). I can sing it for you at the TRANZAC on Monday. Cheers, John |
Subject: RE: Rambles of Spring From: Rich and Dee (inactive) Date: 01 Mar 99 - 01:55 PM Hi, When I used to hang out at Tommy Makem's Irish Pavilion in NYC, I was always told Tommy Makem himself wrote the song. I'd be hard-pressed the contradict that crowd. Rich |
