Just a reminder that the Goderich Celtic Roots festival will be August 11-13, Lions Harbour Park, West Street, Goderich, Ontario, Canada.

As usual, the festival is preceded by the Celtic College, August 7-10; and the Celtic Kids Day Camp, August 7-11.

Phil...The girls are very disappointed that you, Kate, and Margaret are unable to attend, we'll all miss you this year. I've been meaning to send you all a note, but maybe I'll wait until after the festival and give you a report too! I'll try to swindle a t-shirt for you. Size?

I/we will be there for both the festival and the College.
This is about the fifth or sixth time we have done both.
THIS time I will really try to make the lock-up trailer, as I can now ask for Mike Crocker, always felt a bit of a jerk going there asking foe Mooh and whoever was there saying "What! who are you calling a Mooh, Biff! Bang! Thump! Splat!"

JohnB...Sure thing. I've got the early and late shifts on all three days and will be on site and around for the entire festival. Home is only a few blocks away (heck, the whole town is only a few blocks away) but I tend to nap and eat on site, only going home to sleep at night.

What is an instrument security trailer? Sounds as if it's something every festival should have.
I've just been listening to some heartsearchings on "shall I take my concertina to Sidmouth on the train? and carry it around all the time cos it wouldn't be safe in the tent"

We have a transport trailer in which we store all the festival gear between festivals, stuff like tarps, signs, rope, tents, supplies, odd tables & chairs, stages, electricals, etc. It has industrial shelving and would otherwise be empty during the festival except that we park it near the stage so that it can be used for musicians to book their gear in and out.

Every item gets a numbered tag and the owner gets a matching numbered tag. All items are recorded with number, name, and owner. We are staffed (minimum 2 per 4 hour shift) during festival hours but locked up tight at night and there is night security. Rules are pretty strict, though familiar folks don't get questioned much, and when there is a dispute or misunderstanding, it is my job to resolve it. The benefits are that performers don't have to haul their stuff all over the place, it gets delivered from the gate to the lockup for them, it is safe and watched. Even if I have to play the heavy sometimes, especially at last call, at least the gear is protected.

I've played and attended other festivals which didn't even have backstage space, handy toilets, a place to sit, tune, change clothes, and warmup. That sucks! We at least have all that plus a hospitality tent with refreshments. We're not perfect, but we're trying.

The college had a good first day, and lots of cool jobs came through the instrument repair shop. Reset fiddle neck, partial guitar refret, new hide on a bodhran, guitar saddle job, set-ups, etc.

Concerts tonight.

I hope to catch you folks in two days mike (mooh) and, perchance, learn lots of neat things. Counting the hours. MIke
