Subject: Lyrics wanted please...
From: Jennifer
Date: 25 Feb 99 - 05:40 PM

Hi ya'll. I have had portions of these two songs floating around in my head for two plus decades and would like to be able to sing them in their entirety, if ya know what I mean...

Green Green the grass is greener on the far side of the hill Green Green I'm goin away to where the grass is greener still...

also-

Freight train freight train goin so fast Freight train freight train goin so fast I don't care what train I'm on if I'm on that train and gone When I'm dead and in my grave No more good times will I crave...

Thank you very very very much! Jennifer

The second is Libba Cotton's song in DT, "Freight Train". Several of us in the Washington, DC area heard her sing it many years ago.

Use the blue search box in the upper right hand corner to search for
[green green] and a separate search for [freight train]. This will search for songs with those phrases in them. Among the hits will be the songs you are looking for.

Hi Jennifer...Welcome to Mudcat. I'll take this turn in the barrel. See the box about searching the database? Type in [green green] and you'll find your song. Same on Freight Train which is a fingerpickin' folk classic. Type in [freight train] or [freight train freight train] and again you'll find your song.

It's always best to search the DT first. If you can't find what you need, be sure to put some key line or title in the thread label, not just Lyrics wanted.

Hi Jennifer, thanks for stopping in our community. In addition to what catspaw has added, you should also go to the Forum homepage and look at the top of it. You will notice a bunch of links and one of them is "Forum Search". If you don't find what you are looking for by searching the DT, you should use the forum search to see if someone has already posted the lyrics, but the lyrics have not made it into the DT yet. If you don't find what you are looking for using these tools, post the request using the thread title "LYR REQ:songname". Welcome to our town.

All the best,

Big Mick

Subject: Lyrics Please! Green, Green, & Freight Train

Learned these songs off of an album when I was little and cannot remember all of the words.

Freight train, freight train goin so fast Freight train, freight train goin so fast I don't care what train I'm on if I'm on that train and gone

chorus:

When I'm dead and in my grave, no more good times will I crave...

and this one too.

Green green the grass is greener on the far side of the hill. Green green I'm goin away to where the grass is greener still.

Thank you very very much, Jennifer in South Carolina

Jennifer,do you know that when words are blue and underlined they form a clickable link? Just put your cursor on the blue letters in the post above this one and click, and you will be connected to the last time you asked the question (and people's answers).
Blessings,
Barbara

Freight train, freight train goin' so fast, Freight train, freight train goin' so fast, Please don't tell what train I'm on, They won't know what route I've gone.

When I'm dead and in my grave, No more good times here I'll crave Place a stone at my head and feet Tell my friends that I've gone to sleep.

When I die, Lord, bury me deep Down at the end of Chestnut (or Bleeker) street So I can hear old number nine, As she goes down the line.

Elizabeth Cotten, 1893-1987
