Utah Phillips told this in 1972---and I've never forgotten it.

An old distinguished Texan lounging in a Dallas hotel lobby, saw an extremely upset young woman. He asked her, "Little Missy, what could be the problem on this lovely Texas day?" She answered, "Oh, good sir, that cowboy over there just offered me $2.00 to join him in a lewd act!" The man looked nonplussed, to say the least. He walked over to the cowboy and yelled, "Young fella, did you offer that young woman two dollars to perform a lewd act???"
