Subject: Add: The Beverly Maid and the Tinker^^ From: The_one_and_only_Dai Date: 26 Feb 99 - 07:06 AM I figured I had better give something back. In Beverly town a maid did dwell A buxom lass and I knew her well- Her age it was but twenty-two, And for a man, she had a few- Fol-de-rollero, diddle-i-ay, Fol-de-rolleri, Li-de-o. This maid being generous, kind and free, And willing to travel the country, Went to live with a gentleman, A tinker came to solder her pan- Fol-de-rollero etc. The gentleman being from home that day, The tinker with her did sport and play- He slyly got her behind the door, And gave her kisses over and o'er- Fol-de-rollero etc. When all was over and at an end, She tipped him twenty guineas in hand- "When will you come this way again, For I have another old kettle to mend" Fol-de-rollero etc. In travelling hard and being dry, He stopped at an alehouse hard close by- "Landlord, bring me a pot of ale, for twenty guineas I've earned this day" Fol-de-rollero etc. The landlord said, "Well done, me cock, Your rivets you will boldly knock - Me liquor is good, your money's fine, And you will stay with me to dine" Fol-de-rollero etc. If all is true, as I've been told, The tinker he spent all his gold- He may do as he's done before, And rivet the maid behind the door. Fol-de-rollero etc. x2 Collected by Cecil Sharpe in E. Yorkshire, ca. 1909. ^^ |
