I've done a fair bit of searching for this song, here and elsewhere. I understand there is a Norman Blake Anthology available, but that's down the list of purchases quite a ways at this time. Some indication of chords would be a bonus, but just the lyrics would be great, thanks, if anyone has them.

Also recorded by the Red Mountain White Trash. Original recording, as far as I know, by Harry C. Browne and the Peerless Quartet. The "Trash version is a lot easier to decipher. I'll work on it, but it won't be today; watch this space!

I've a 'search' question about Mudcat, anyone. I posted a chords request within the last several months for Good Dog, an ISB song; didn't get any chords right off, but it occurred to me today I should check the thread to see if it subsequently got a response. So I used the forum search option and can't find the thread at all, at all.

So, do unanswered requests get deleted after a time (would make some sense)? Is there something esoteric about the search function? Do threads only get archived and searchable after a year or some length of time?

Fred Eaglesmith wrote a tune called HE'S A GOOD DOG and if this is the song you're looking for, I can give you a link to the chords. Bryan Bowers recorded a talkin' blues type song called DOG that you might also like. I usually do these as a set.

Jim, ISB = Incredible String Band. The Norman Blake anthology I saw mentioned several times in the Mudcat archives - a search on Norman Blake there will find you more info.

Guest, Bee - The answers to your questions about searches etc should all be in the FAQ but basicaly - No they don't get deleted.

If you click on your own name in any post it will take you to a list of everything you have ever posted. You are on 90-odd posts at the moment. If you did not post as Guest, Bee though it may not find the one you are looking for.

If you can remember the thread title or even part of it the 'filter' may be more appropriate that the search function. Click the filter button. Type in a bit of the thread title and use the pull down box to limit the search timesacle.

If you still don't find it it may be that you have suffered the Mudcat equivalent of the Bermuda triangle being discussed in the 'Missing Posts' thread. Could explain why you got no answers if the post never actualy hit the board!

Well, now I'm right confused. Ranger Steve, the only reference that comes up is this set of lyrics poted by AnneMC, and it is not the lyrics I'm looking for. The song, which I've heard a dozen times on CBC Galaxie's Folk Roots channel, and is identified by them as stated in thread title, is about the Passover, includes the repeated chorus line 'he passed over'. Perhaps Folk Roots has misidentified it. And of course, since I started looking for it, they haven't played it once!

There are several songs about Gabriel.   The Angel Gabriel as sung by Atwater & Donnelly and Norman Blake is my personal favorite but I have heard at least one different song about this angel.
