well I found out that I was called Captain Birdseye behind my back.I must say I dislike fish fingers, But any donations of wild salmon or caviar would be appreciated.apparantly I look a bit like the Captain, Anyway he seems jolly, so I figured their could be worse nicknames..

My daughter used to say "Cool Beans" a lot when she was 14, which is when I first signed on to Mudcat. Now she's 21. It means "good, really good." I use the same handle on Talkin' Broadway.

A young lady on whom I had improper designs told me that she could never get serious with someone who had the disposition of a troll with a toothache.
This in the mid-sixties and the Lord of the Rings had just come out paperback, hence the troll reference.
We got married two years later but the troll thing stuck. Troll was my handle in the days of CB radio and simply carried it over to the internet.

I thought it would be nicer than Fogey -as in old fogey. here I rest,sitting behind a mahogony desk with my three piece tweed suit(buttoned trousers of course), while the spiders weave webs in the darkness of my oak panelled study. I note from my pocket watch that it is soon time to have my milk and whisky, and settle down to read the Times, before retiring to my four poster, that has been neatly turned down by my valet! Strange- he doesnt turn down much else I note. Wish they'd spell it with a capital F!

My family (my mother, my father, and my father's wife) were shunned by my father's sister. Her daughter - my cousin, found out about my birth but was never allowed to meet me. (she was 11 when I was born) She wrote "Joybell's birthday" in her birthday book. It took her 56 years to find me but she still had the old birthday book. I liked the nickname.

I think we still have a nursery colony of Little Brown Bats under our roof. Before we stuffed up the opening in the front of the house (forcing them to use the opening on the opposite side of the house, the side with the very uneven slope making lousy footing for a tall ladder), they lived above the bedroom. The "adolescents" would go out on their own around the first week in July (here in New Hampshire, at least, get confused and sometimes end up in the bedroom. Now they live above the guest room, I think. I should probably put the little ceramic "bat room" bat-shaped plaque on the guest room door, but that might REALLY confuse guests as the BATH room is just to the left.

And I LIKE bats...

To paraphrase Sandy Denny "we'll meet on the 'LEJ'". Plenty of room for two. Though usually when somebody has referred to me by the LEJ monicker it gets pronounced "Leige" for some reason, giving it a medieval spin.

Last year at the Getaway, I was called Leige and Ernie as well as the full Lonesome EJ. I woke up with a grin when Amos pulled his car up at 5:30 am in front of my cabin for the returning airport ride,leaned into the dark room, and intoned in a quiet and somber voice "Lonesome?"

Helen has always been one of my favourite feminine names, actually. There again, I hated Ralph before I hit my teens (Happy Days & Ralph Malph were on TV in the UK at the time). Then I found out what it meant & why it was one of my names. Liked it ever since, though I still prefer my chosen variants!
