'Azizi' is a Kiswahili name that means "rare & precious", or at least so I was told by the male friend who gave me this name when I was 20 years old.

I've used this name as my first name ever since.

I've been told that the Arabic version of this name "Aziza" means "powerful" and "dear". And those meanings work for me too.

I took all the possible combinations of the Gettysburg Address and after 49 attempts came up with "catspaw." Later I found out the acual Gettysburg address was 945 Pickett Lane, Gettysburtg, PA..... but I was stuck with catspaw. This was way back in '98. Another member at that time who is also still around called himself "The Shambles" and I later learned this was slang for "broke-dick, pain in the ass, mook."

Now the site owner here has a really creative handle. His name is Max Spiegel and his handle is Max. Really cool huh? See, though what you don't know is that Max is an American Indian word meaning "guy who gets kicked in the balls by Spaw".......either that or "River of Death." But then again all Indian words seem to translate into "River of Death."

You probably noticed that I wasn't to PC there with the "American Indian" reference but we've run a load of threads about that very subject and we never reach any agreement, so I gave up. If you hear I've been found with a tomahawk in my skull, well, you figure it out.

We've run about 97 of these threads in the past 8 years so I hope ypou didn't mind me fuckin' around some with this one......All except for the part about Shambles which is true, at least to the best of my knowledge......although I could well be wrong, in which case I apologize.....a little..............

It's my Choctaw name-the nickname my family & close friends use, as opposed to my legal name which my mother did not choose. My father bent to his family's demand to name me after my great aunt, so he filled out the name for birth certificate purposes & signed his & my mother's names to the hospital form. My mother is still mad about it.

Well, my first name is Claire. My father called me Claire Bear when I was small. And to clinch the deal, I was working for the Great Dickens Christmas Fair and Pickwick Comic Annual in the late '70s and thought there was something missing from the recreated 19th-c. London streets, so based on the painting on the cover on the 1975 Penguin Book of English Folk Songs (way-too-small picture here), I built myself a bear suit and became the Great Dickens Christmas Bear and Pickwick Comic Animal. (Ask Dave Swan if you don't believe me!) My partner rented me out for waltzes at 25 cents a dance, or 50 cents with the muzzle in place. He had me on a long chain, and whenever anyone wanted to whirl me around in a glorious Vienneze waltz -- and there were a few takers -- he'd have to run in circles around the happy couple in order to keep from entangling us with the chain. It was hilarious.

So there you go.

Topsie -- I was wondering if that was it. I am a lifelong Morris fan and undertook a pilgrimage to put a wreath of wildflowers on his grave a few years ago. That visit to Kelmscot is a jewel-like memory I will treasure until I die.
