Best bet is usually to clear cache/all cookies/temporary internet files before resetting

If you're using WinXP and have even remotely recent updates, the security level that your browser sets to as a default may look the same but it uses more restrictive rules. It may let you set a cookie but will enter the cookie from a site that doesn't display a "security certificate" as a "temporary" cookie that disappears when you leave the site.

In Internet Explorer, you should click Tools then Internet Options and click the Privacy Tab at the top. Click the Sites button and type mudcat.org in the box, and then click the Allow button. The site name mudcat.org should appear in the lower box with the notation Always Allow in the right pane.

Once this is done, IE can accept a "permanent" cookie (the normal kind you want from mudcat) and will remember who you are when you come back.

Note that at this same place, you can block cookies from a specific site, should you run into a problem with one, although blocking a site's cookies may affect what pleasures the site will allow you when you visit it. A good popup blocker and anti Spyware (Adware) program is a better way to block, or periodically clean up, the general run of annoyances.

Other browsers should have a similar place where you can give permission for permanent cookies.

I lost my password a few years ago and have never discovered how to get it back - if anyone knows, maybe they'd tell Amos and he'd pass me the info?

GUEST JTT -

If you click on the "Forgot My Password" thingy, or whatever it's called at the log-in place at mudcat, you can provide some minimal identification and your password can be emailed to you. Note though that your password can ONLY be mailed to the email address shown in mudcat's records, so if you don't have that email address any more, or can't remember which one you used, your conditon vaguely resembles that of the notorious canoist on the famous waterway lacking appropriate propulsive devices.

If the simple, and usual methods, don't work, an email to mudcat administration will provide them with your new and current email address, you can thereby establish a line of communication where you can have pleasant chats with the sponsors, and a resolution of your "problem" in all likelihood will be forthcoming.

Paul Burke - A group of my friends (female) insisted that it grows back if you don't use it for a long enough time. Based on my observation of a couple of the "associates" holding this opinion, my own view was that it more likely grows shut and is useless. But I've heard that there is this surgery ... but I think it was only for the ladies(?).

John

JJT, if the email thing fails, email -Joe Offer (click to e-mail)- giving him the email you registered with and your real name. He should be able to sort it out from there.
