Subject: mark spoelstra - back on the road From: Big Al Whittle Date: 14 Aug 06 - 04:24 AM When I was a kid about 16, the biggest thing musically in my life wasn't the Beatles or The Stones - though they were still going strong at that point - the biggest thing for me was that solo out of France Blues by Mark Spoelstra - on a Gibson 12 string and like the LP booklet said - nimble and catlike. In fact The Blues Project was a very special album for me. I wore out three copies! anyway I always kept tabs on the protagonists, and for some reason I e-mailed Geoff Muldaur last night and asked if he knew anything of mark's whereabouts. Turns out, Mark has just gone back on the road and apparently has a new website. I hope he makes it to England. http://www.markspoelstra.net/ |
Subject: RE: mark spoelstra - back on the road From: Wesley S Date: 14 Aug 06 - 09:01 AM Thanks for the news WLD. Yeah the Blues Project LP on Electra had a huge impact on me too. I must admit that the first time I heard it I thought my record was warped. I'd never heard slide guitar like that before. But one I was convinced the the LP was flat I opened up to a whole new world of music. I've followed the progress of most of the performers on that recording. |
Subject: RE: mark spoelstra - back on the road From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 14 Aug 06 - 09:12 AM Mark was a guest on my show a few years ago when his latest CD was released. It was great fun to chat with him and share his experiences. He new CD is simply wonderul and I highly recommend it. He is still doing intentive work on the guitar and writing some great songs. He is touring primarily near his home, but I do hope he will go on an extended tour someday. By the way, if you watch the Dylan documentary "No Direction Home" you will catch Mark speaking about "the old days". Ron |
Subject: RE: mark spoelstra - back on the road From: GUEST Date: 14 Aug 06 - 04:07 PM Mark stopped touring ages ago to be with his family. He's just started touring again and is better than ever. We got to open for him in June and his guitar playing is nothing less than magnificent. He's also a great enetertainer. The time just flew by and suddenly it was over. Bev and Jerry |
