Subject: RE: Wild Mountain Thyme as Tuva throat From: Stilly River Sage Date: 15 Aug 06 - 12:08 AM I have enjoyed the Tuva performances I've heard in the native tongue in the past. I can't help but diagnose the need for a new solenoid with this peculiar sound! |

Subject: RE: Wild Mountain Thyme as Tuvla throat From: Skivee Date: 14 Aug 06 - 10:36 PM They certainly could handle the low notes in "Many Brave Men Are Asleep In The Deep". ..And I'm sure that whales, far asea, will be pleased that someone is singing in a range they can hear. |
Subject: RE: Wild Mountain Thyme as Tuvla throat From: Severn Date: 14 Aug 06 - 10:11 PM Yes Skivee, but can they do sea shanties, like say, "General Taylor" or even "Blood Red Roses"?. If so, maybe you could let them do a guest set with the Pyrates Royale at the Maryland Ren Fest or even bring them to The Royal Mile, The Wharf Rat or The Drummer's Lot for a nautical sing, and maybe even let them field the inevitable requests for "Barrett's Privateers" and "Mary Ellen Carter"! |
Subject: RE: Wild Mountain Thyme as Tuva throat From: Charlie Baum Date: 14 Aug 06 - 09:19 PM That's certainly, um, different. Kargyraa (Tuvan undertone singing) isn't as painful to produce as it sounds. It's actually a vocal trick using the "false" vocal folds instead of the usual cords--sort of like what Kendall Morse has been doing for the last few months. (No, Kendall, your speech therapist forbids you from giving this a try until your REAL voice is securely back.) |
Subject: RE: Wild Mountain Thyme as Tuvla throat From: katlaughing Date: 14 Aug 06 - 09:12 PM Definitely different. I love Tuvan throat-singing, but I think I prefer it in their native language. Thanks for posting the link. |
Subject: RE: Wild Mountain Thyme as Tuvla throat From: Alba Date: 14 Aug 06 - 08:57 PM Thanks for the link Skivee. That is the oddest thing I have heard in a while but.....I like it:) I think that throat music is truly wonderful, as for Tulva..... well let me just say that their particular take on Wild Mountain Thyme is without a doubt totally unique. Thanks again, Best Wishes Jude |

Subject: Wild Mountain Thyme as Tuvla throat From: Skivee Date: 14 Aug 06 - 07:04 PM I'm not making this up. Sit through the 2 minute (!) intro to hear a VERY different take on the old warhorse. http://blog.yat-kha.com/download/music/2005_Bootleg/Yat_Kha_2005_Bootleg_Wild_mountain_Thyme.mp3 |
