Subject: Lyr Req: Tie a little string around your finger From: Cool Beans Date: 15 Aug 06 - 09:03 AM The title box won't let me write whole thing. The song is "I'm Goin' To Tie a Little String Around Your Finger." The first two lines are: I'm goin' to tie a little string around your finger To keep you from forgetting me... When I was a kid it was the theme song of a singing cowboy who had a 15-minute show on WLNA in Peekskill, N.Y. Even then, in the early 60s, I knew he was a vestige of an earlier time. |

Subject: Lyr Add: TIE A STRING AROUND YOUR FINGER From: Peace Date: 16 Aug 06 - 12:48 AM Tie A String Around Your Finger (Brian Holland/Lamont Dozier/Eddie Holland/Janie Bradford) While I'm gone (while I'm gone) You say your love will stay so strong & you like the day we meet Tie a string around your finger so you won't forget No no, don't you forget it now You said (said), darlin', you would remember the thrill of my kiss & the thrill of my lonely arms you'll always miss So tie a string around your finger so you won't forget Don't you dare forget it While I'm gone I'll miss you, I know But my lonely lonely heart will never never stray For I'll always keep you for our devoted love Come what may, my love will never fade away You know (you know) it won't be easy to always stay true No, it's no easy thing to do But remember how much, how much I love you & tie a string around your finger (tie a string) & please don't forget me (round your finger) Just tie a string around your finger ...& fade |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Tie a little string around your finger From: Cool Beans Date: 16 Aug 06 - 12:11 PM Not that one either, Peace, but thanks! I'd never heard the Holland/Dozier/Holland song. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Tie a little string around your finger From: Peace Date: 16 Aug 06 - 04:33 PM "We're sorry but the artist has decided not to disclose the lyrics for this song." I'm gettin' that message when I search for the lyrics to that song--the one mentioned just above. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Tie a little string around your finger From: Cool Beans Date: 20 Aug 06 - 11:00 AM Thanks, Jim, but that's not it either. This was/is a pretty simple country song. Here is every thing I remember from the chorus: --- I'm going to tie a little string around your finger To keep you from forgetting me. I'm going to tie a little string around your finger To keep you from forgetting me. When (missing words, missing words....) The string will help refresh your memory. I'm going to tie a little string around your finger To remind you that you're tied to me. ---- |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Tie a little string around your finger From: Jim Dixon Date: 20 Aug 06 - 12:48 PM OK, then... I'M GONNA TIE A LITTLE STRING AROUND YOUR FINGER Sung by the Barry Sisters on "Rhythm in the Saddle", a CD offered by The Country Music Store (Australia). Sung by Betty Taylor on the Sons of the Pioneers' Lucky-U Ranch radio program, 8 February 1952. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has a transcription disc. Performed by Mervin Shiner on a 78-rpm disk, being offered for sale by GoAntiques.com; also on a CD called "Steppin' Out," offered by The British Archive of Country Music. I couldn't find any lyrics or sound files. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Tie a little string around your finger From: Cool Beans Date: 21 Aug 06 - 10:59 AM Wow! Thank you, Jim! That sounds like the one. I will pursue. How'd you locate it? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Tie a little string around your finger From: Cool Beans Date: 21 Aug 06 - 11:21 AM Ha! I see how you did it, Jim. You Googled "I'm Gonna..." instead of "I'm goin' to..." or "I'm going to..." Anyway, thanks again. I ordered the recording from the store in Australia. I was relieved to discover that the Barry Sisters are/were an Australian country duo, not the American pop duo who sang so many of their songs in Yiddish. I couldn't picture the American Barry Sisters doing a cowboy album, although on my first CD I sing "Home on the Range" in Yiddish. |

Subject: Lyr Add: TIE A LITTLE STRING AROUND YOUR FINGER From: Jim Dixon Date: 02 Dec 12 - 11:40 AM This must be the song written by Seymour Simons in 1930. There is only one chorus in this recording, which I heard on Spotify: TIE A LITTLE STRING AROUND YOUR FINGER As performed by the Roy Fox Band, with vocalist Al Bowlly, on "It's a Sin to Tell a Lie" (2010) Tie a little string around your finger So you'll remember me, Any little thing to help me linger In your memory. If you learn to love another, Think how lonely I would be, So tie a little string around your finger So you'll remember me. |
Subject: Lyr Add: TIE A STRING AROUND YOUR FINGER (Youmans) From: Jim Dixon Date: 02 Dec 12 - 05:43 PM Another one I heard on Spotify: TIE A STRING AROUND YOUR FINGER Words and music by Vincent Youmans As sung by Robert White on an album by William Bolcom, Joan Morris, & Robert White, "The Carioca: Songs of Vincent Youmans, Vol. 2" (2006) Try not to forget me. You won't if you will let me Just tie a string around your finger to remember me Then although you leave me, Our parting will not grieve me. That little piece of string will keep you faithful as can be. Tie a string around your finger, dear, To make you think of me while I'm away. § In your heart I want to linger near Till you come back again some happy day. I love you; I love you truly. I love you; that's why I say: Tie a string around your finger, dear, To make you think of me while I'm away. [Repeat from § to end.] |
