It is going to be a smasher!!
Janie, if I might put in a suggestion, here in the UK at Mudcat events we hold a raffle! ,catters bring a prize that they donate, tickets are sold and the raffle drawn and a choice of prize is taken, Funds raised from the sale of tickets are then donated to the cause, overheads are minimal (books of tickets) and everyone can contribute a prize, at some Mudcat gatherings there have been almost too many prizes!!! I do realize this gives SINSULL and Jacquie a chance to perpetrate some of their Kitsch horriedifices on someone and everyone else the chance to clear the "white elephant" section of their home!!but it has always been good fun, the draw could be made during one of the Evening concerts when almost everyone is present, If you need info on how it is organised here PM "My Guru always says" as she has been the stalwart organiser here with her team of Menacing Ladies who extract money from everyone as painlesly as Jimmyt removes teeth. I for one would be delighted to contribute something to such an enterprise,
Micca

Sounds like a good idea Micca. I reckon that we could set up a raffle with no problem. We've got a large pool of menacing ladies, including your own dear wife, to draw upon.

I think any plan to help Jeff would be wonderful...bearing in mind that many Getaway goers will have no idea who he is. (Some local FSGW members don't even use computers, much less read Mudcat). Any signs or announcements would need to address this....

I can get something onto paper to explain what it's all about so if people can let me know what they will donate I can get some leaflets printed and bring with me.

What do you reckon on ticket price?

A reminder to one and all--

The Deadline is rapidly approaching

By this coming weekend, the FSGW (actually, me) is going to have to tell the camp how many meals to prepare, and our housing chair (not me) is going to have to figure out how to best fit attendees into the 202 beds available.

LAST CALL

If you're coming, please let us know. Send an email to our registrar that he should expect your registration form. Or PM me. But let us know if you can come.

WOW, Rita! It sounds FABULOUS!! I hope that cloning workshop is going to happen! What a lot of work you and Carly and Nancy have done to organize this!

Just a thought....If some of these sessions could be videotaped, perhaps copies could be made available for sale to assist in fundraising efforts......

Ebbie, I didn't know you liked doo-wop!

KT, thanks for the good words.

Carly, Nancy, and I love working together. There is so much synergy. Our meetings are always fun. Nancy has been hosting them and we bring potluck snacks because the meetings generally take about three hours, then lots of e-mails and phone calls go back and forth before the next meeting. The amount that gets done is really amazing. In this case, three heads definitely are better than one -- about five times better. :-)

Thanks are due (once again) to all the Mudcatters who offered ideas about workshops, and have been willing to help out as workshop leaders. There were a lot of terrific suggestions. If we couldn't fit your idea in the program this year, it was probably due to either lack of time and space, or too many similar sessions; but I'm sure we'll be asking for ideas many more times in the future.

I'm going to put this post on any threads that might produce results for forgive me for multi-posting.

We are going to arrange for a raffle at the Getaway to raise funds for Pene. What we need are items to be put into the raffle so, if you have anything suitable and are either coming to the Getaway or can get the item to me or to someone who is coming to the Getaway please let me know and I can include it in the list of prizes that I'll be putting together over the next two weeks.

If you want any further info PM me.

Okay, this is going to be a Work in Progress for a few minutes as I figure out the best way to get the schedule grids up.

These are DRAFTS, as usual, and we will wait for your feedback. They were hand drawn on sticky-notes during last night's Program Committee meeting. I suspect we'll have something a little sturdier & more readable by the Getaway...

I will try just posting the JPEG files:

Saturday (2006)

Sunday (2006)

list of workshops, with leaders

Now to test this.

Well, just got the first PM giving feedback. We do need feedback.

We don't want to make too many changes. But still, let us know where there are conflicts that are gonna make you crazy. Sometimes it's absolutely necessary to shuffle something, and that can open an opportunity to respond to other requests & comments.

Actually, most of it looks pretty good to me - one suggestion would be to move the Tribute to Joe Glazer to a slot where it would not be opposite Campaigns and Politics. Lots of Joe's music -a nd labor music in general - was an is tied up with politics.

Thanks for all your good work. What a great Getaway it will be!

The cloning workshop to teach you to be in two or more places at once will be held on Monday morning after breakfast, followed by the workshop to teach you how to go back in time to take advantage of the cloning. :-)

Schedule looks good. I'm particularly glad the Ozark/Applachian/Adirondak workshop does not conflict with the Old Time Country Music Singing.

I had invisioned Old Time Country Music Singing to gather in "The Charlie Poole, Delmore Brothers, Grandpa Jones, the Carter Family, Blue Sky Boys, etc. and Jean Ritchie".

So there'll likely be some crossover. (That's a good thing)

cheers,
chance

Well thank goodness there are three of us, and it's not my job, it's "our" job. You wouldn't believe what goes into making even a modest set of changes.

Nancy had to work Friday & yesterday too, Carly was very busy, and I was in Towson giving our son Darriel a hand (actually a ride) to get a lot of errands done, so we are trying to work out these schedule changes via e-mail and phone. In between, each of us is rearranging sticky notes on a printed copy of the grid, and re-reading all the requests for changes and all the committee's comments and concerns. Every tiny change suggested, requires a thorough scrutiny of the grid to see how many new conflicts we've created!

Here is the schedule grid, with revisions.

PLEASE take a good look and notify us of problems. We will fix substantive problems. If we hear the same moans from enough people we may even consider fixing non-substantive problems but it's like removing the bottom stick from a stack of pick-up sticks so we try to avoid it.

Thank you for your kind words. We,(the program committee,) are more than willing to endure the craziness in order to make sure that the Getaway happens. Speaking of which....

We are in need of a volunteer or two to take charge of the Saturday night evening snack. This means picking up food on the way to camp, making sure it gets put out, and cleanup. It does not mean having to cook on site. If you are not already doing something, and can help out, please PM me. Thanks!

I should add to my plea for help; these tasks can be shared among several people. The same person who fetches food doesn't have to be the one to do clean-up. You are welcome to volunteer for a part of the job, or volunteer to find the volunteers to do the work!

There are not very many standard 'chores' like there used to be a few years ago, when we did much of the work, including kitchen duty, ourselves. If we need something special, there will no doubt be notices (signs) at registration, or announcements.
