We've tracked down one of the tunes used in silent movie chases - about a year ago on a thread. Can't find it for the moment but anyway it's another one that I'm after.
How to put this?
It goes:
Dum dum dum dum duddle-uddle dum dum dum dum.... X twice

Then what? and does anyone know its name. Cheers, Joy

Actually it's used as a stalking tune rather than a chase - sorry Cheers, Joy

I think that's the one Mick, thanks. Brings us a little closer maybe.
And thanks effsee, for that site. Should be fun. Will spend a bit of time there.
Cheers, Joy

There is an interesting set of tunes from the silent movies "Sam Fox Moving Picture Music Volume 1" (1913) by J.S. Zamecnik available for download as pdf and midi at The Silent Film Bookshelf. Sadly neither of the two misterioso tunes there seem to be the desired one.

The tune may be the Misterioso Pizzicato - see the reference here: Perfessor Bill Edwards - click the Sounds of the Silents link at the top of the page (it may take a few seconds to load) and look for the entry for J. Bodewalt Lampe - 1914 further down the page. It says this may be the most recognizable eight measures contained within. Sadly I can't verify it - although it says to click a title to play, the feature doesn't seem to work.

Further evidence for this at: The Harold Lloyd Community - Silent File Discussion Board where one of the messages has: Misteriosos - General use for your usual "creepy villain" or scary situations. (eg. think "Misterioso Pizzicato"-- that tune that people creep around to)

(It also means that my rendering of the tune above should have been more like: .C .E| .G .c|TA2| .G/.F/.E/.D/ :| or C/z/ E/z/|g/z/ c/z/ etc)

Used to have an LP - 70's or thereabouts, which had performances of many of the pieces with their 'correct' names.

Looks like you've found the answer for me, Mick. Thank you. I didn't actually need to know but I like to find out everything I can about tunes and songs I use. I've written a Pantomime for my local community and this tune is perfect for the seek-and-scare scene.
"Fee fi fo fum - Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!" . Like that.

Cheers, Joy
