Still missed by many, have fond memories of the man... I can never forget the time he bought a round at the Tonder festival and it being Ian McCalmans birthday passed out the Bottle of beers to everyone on the table... How the hell he remembered which bottle was full of water instead of beer I don't know but some shouted "Skol." Bottles where raised and McCalman drank the water!!!!! A great Joker was our Iain.

He did several concerts for our folk music club, and was a joy to work with. A fine performer and a true gentleman.

I remember that tribute concert in 2007 which I referred to above, as well as having seen him live in several folk clubs. What surprised me about the concert was how little anyone spoke about him, and no-one did any of his songs. They just did what they usually do. I spoke to one of the participants afterwards as I knew she often did one of his songs in our pub sessions, and asked her why she didn't do one of his songs: "Oh, I didn't think I should" was her answer. I don't really get that - why not, at a tribute concert?
Anyway, nearly 20 years ago, and he is still missed and at least some of his songs still go on.

Could it be because he made the songs he sang so much his own, even if he didn't write most of them? Or that he seemed so modest on stage (compared to some I can think of)? But I agree, it is strange!
