Subject: RE: BS: Not posting on a thread From: catspaw49 Date: 01 Sep 06 - 12:51 PM Your knots made me think of having to learn all those when I was 9. I loved sailing so I did the knotboard as Cub Scout project. Hated the Sheepshank until many years later when I found out how useful it really was. The old guy who taught me insisted you had to be able to tie a bowline in 5 seconds or less and again, later on, I found THAT more than valuable. Anyway........... After mastering the bowline he told me to find out how to tie a Chinese version he called the "Dragon Bowline" on my own. A few days later I told him I had looked hard and couldn't find it in any book. He immediately took a line, whipped a bowline on it and dragged it along behind him, laughing his ass off. Took me awhile to get it, but HEY! I was only 10. Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: Not posting on a thread From: Big Mick Date: 01 Sep 06 - 01:53 PM You know you are getting good when you can throw a bowline one handed. I loved that page, Giok. When I was working as a diver we used the double bowline for lifting barrels, sometimes for an emergency sling to lift a person. Mick |

Subject: RE: BS: Not posting on a thread From: Bill D Date: 02 Sep 06 - 12:33 PM it's getting easier to not post to "the thread which may not be named"...whenever I am tempted, I just come here and read, and, surrounded by my my fellow non-posters, I can stand up and announce: "hello, my name is Bill, and I'm a compulsive poster of rational responses to repetitive rancor" Today, I have been 'on the wagon' for one whole week! I want to thank the support team for helping me through this time of trial..... (heh, heh, heh) |

Subject: RE: BS: Not posting on a thread From: Bill D Date: 02 Sep 06 - 01:01 PM no...Shambholic, grammatically seems to indicate thirst for 'Shambolism' (if I may be permitted to name the syndrome)....I think my affliction is merely a sub-version of the "Don Quixote" weakeness we often accuse 'another' of. We..at least *I*... 'tilt at windmills' in frustrating attempts to make sense of that which is long past sense. This 'thread of sanctuary' allows me to "sheath my lance" (can I say that in a public forum?) and humbly acknowledge my weakness with others.... |

Subject: RE: BS: Not posting on a thread From: Bill D Date: 02 Sep 06 - 04:28 PM why, Little Hawk...SURELY you understand that we are simply speaking metaphorically here!...working out subconcious nuances of our Pavlovian tendencies and not really 'posting' in the Existential sense. You'll notice that Giok has managed several times to 'not post' while still elegantly conveying the essentiality of his non-posting experience....an achievement not to be trivilaized! |

Subject: RE: BS: Not posting on a thread From: Bill D Date: 03 Sep 06 - 12:12 PM but it seems obvious that restriction to one thread is only relevant to such instances in which restricted topics are currently being reviewed and examined in such volume as to create distracting nuances of inveterate redundancies, which, if allowed to proliferate beyond aforesaid restricted threads, could easily imbue entire irrelevant topics with extraneous digressions in order to address 'someones' voluble concerns on the meta-topic of whether, indeed, such posting should BE allowed, regardless of numerous requests, both from fellow posters and from management to desist from engaging in such divisive and contumacious behavior...leading me to ponder whether, perhaps, the restriction under consideration could be reiterated in some way that would clarify the extent and exceptions TO the restriction without compromising the very real presumptive ability of all fellow posters to expound on all manner of issues not related to the inordinately lengthy and complex concerns of one individual who cannot, seemingly, refrain from exacerbating already awkward differences with loquacious repetition of previously adjudicated complaints? and just imagine how many other threads I did NOT post to! |

When you see the black helicopters comin' you'll have just about enough time to bend over and kiss yer ass goodbye. Subject: RE: BS: Not posting on a thread From: Bill D Date: 06 Sep 06 - 04:51 PM bait is dangling in several threads, but non-posting is starting to be more interesting than yanking the bait line. I wonder if Google could map the interrelationships of the last 5 years of complaint threads....maybe put up a 3-D map in color, with statistics. |

Subject: RE: BS: Not posting on a thread From: Joe Offer Date: 07 Sep 06 - 03:36 AM Is it safe over here? That "closed and deleted" thread is too full of people who take themselves entirely too seriously. I thought I was going to get eaten alive. So, doesn't anybody here know what happens when you salt a banana slug? Same thing as what happens to a regular slug? Escargot, anyone? -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: BS: Not posting on a thread From: John MacKenzie Date: 07 Sep 06 - 04:11 AM Perhaps a notice saying might be in order Joe? Giok |

Subject: RE: BS: Not posting on a thread From: Don(Wyziwyg)T Date: 13 Sep 06 - 05:56 PM I really must not protest at the number of posters not posting solely to not pass non personal non judgements of other non posters non worth. It is a non indication of how not bad things are getting on our non forum, largely due to the non activities of the current non leader of the Mudcat non editing team, who seems not to think that it is not alright to not set this kind of non example for other non posters to follow. If our non anonymous non fellow non posters were not clearly named for all not to see, it would not be necessary for me not to bring this topic up non repeatedly, and our non forum would not be a happier place. Christ, that almost makes sense, except that I'm not here not posting. Don not T. |

Subject: RE: BS: Not posting on a thread From: GUEST,Professor Lucullus Chinchover Date: 15 Sep 06 - 03:19 PM You gentlemen have failed utterly to exemplify the principle of symbiosis. This disappoints me. |
Subject: RE: BS: Not posting on a thread From: The Shambles Date: 15 Sep 06 - 09:03 PM http://www.cals.ncsu.edu/course/ent591k/symbiosis.html Symbiosis is a close ecological relationship between the individuals of two (or more) different species. Sometimes a symbiotic relationship benefits both species, sometimes one species benefits at the other's expense, and in other cases neither species benefits. Ecologists use a different term for each type of symbiotic relationship: Mutualism -- both species benefit Commensalism -- one species benefits, the other is unaffected Parasitism -- one species benefits, the other is harmed Competition -- neither species benefits Neutralism -- both species are unaffected |

Subject: RE: BS: Not posting on a thread From: The Shambles Date: 15 Dec 06 - 12:03 PM IT'S NOT JUST WHAT YOU'RE BORN WITH (Si Kahn) Chorus: It's not just what you're born with, It's what you choose to bear It's not how large your share is, but how much you can share Oh it's not the fights you dream of But those you really fought It's not just what your given But what you do with what you've got You must know someone like him, He was tall and strong and lean, body like a greyhound, Mind so sharp and keen But his heart just like a laurel, grew twisted on itself, 'til almost everything he did brought pain to someone else. For what's the use of two strong legs, if you only run away What good is the finest voice, If you've nothing good to say, What good are strength and muscles, if you only push and shove What's the use of two good ears, if you can't hear those you love. Between those who use their neighbors, and those who use a cane, Those in constant power and those in constant pain, Between those who run to evil and those who cannot run, Tell me, which ones are the cripples, And which ones touch the sun?
