The GI is holding a beer festival 30th Sep-1st Oct, to celebrate the racking of their traditional beers in the bar.A session hosted by John Barden is happening on Sunday lunchtime 1st. Unfortunately the chippy has let him down, so the racks won't be ready, but the beer will

We can come. Never mind the racks, as long as the beer's there. Why have we had to go back so far to read this? Where is everyone?

Been away at the Fylde Folk Festival. Looking forward to doing this one as the governors are lovely people and really support f**k music. Hope to see as many of you there as possible. I won't be able to partake in the various ales though as I'll be the one who's driving - damn!!

I shall see if her indoors is up for a good Sunday sing-song and foot stomp. So might see y'all there.

We can offer bodhran or several alternatives: Bongos, dhembis, snare drum, tambourines, lots of esoteric shaky things, and several shaky eggs. So can go right up to it. It'll be very hot though- all them banjos and accordions on the fire!

I doubt that that report is very representative. I wouldn't say that it's architecturally the most beautiful pub in the world, but it's perfectly all right inside, particularly in the saloon bar where the music events are held.

They have a good beer garden out the back, they always have a good selection of well-kept beers and the landlords are very welcoming and foster a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. They also put on a lot of live music.

The event in question is, I believe, to celebrate refurbishment of the pub, including setting the beer barrels up on racks; sounds interesting!

If in doubt, suck it and see! Give it a try this weekend. If you're there at the Sunday afternoon singaround (John Barden's), I'll see you there.

Hope the bald dog didn't fight with the other two. Sorry we didn't make it today. Mumbling Len is living up to his name... been ill for most of week.... fever subsided but so has voice. I've got a nasty allergic rash from who knows where, so decided to go to A and E this lunchtime. My G.P. had incorrectly diagnosed excema, and prescribed hydrocortizone. This made the condition worse. Am now on antihystamine for a fortnight. Hope the singaround went well.

Yeah, lots of people have trouble with eczema - it's usually the spelling...

You missed Dead Horse, and it seemed a little firebucket burned his bobstay through, so social diseases must be the theme of the day.

Essex Girl was nursing a bad throat, but it seemed the medicine helped, taken in a pint tankard...

Annie and Fay were too hung over to drink (never seen that before).

Kenneth Ingham and the Roundhouse Cowboy got lost again...

Little Legs cried off.

Kevin the Shirt Murderer had to leave early, his mother's birthday party, and Growler also had to leave early because his lift (his son) was going.

Wolfshead and Vixen had their AGM and then left without coming in.

But we had quite a nice time.

I'm just licking the tip of my pencil to write it in. (By the way, why do/did people lick the end of their pencils before writing? Answers on a postcard, please).

I second wholeheartedly your comments on the landlords, John.

While we're on the subject of the Good Intent, let's have a bit of blatant self-promotion:

Jumbo Gumbo - Kent's newest zydeco band - are playing at the Good Intent on Sunday, 22nd October at 6.30. Be there or be square!

This is sounding rather good. I just asked Trevor if taps were better than hand pumps - apparently so. On the subject of licking the pencil tip. Pencils were originally made od lead, and needed licking to get them to write. The downside of this was, of course, lead poisoning.
