Subject: Ali Scott (for manitas at work)
From: GUEST,Chris Smith
Date: 26 Feb 07 - 06:08 PM

Sorry to use this list for personal matters, but I found this old post, and wondered if you are still in contact with Ali Scott. He was a friend of my brother-in-law John McGowan, who has sadly died, and the funeral is this coming Friday, 2nd March. We'd like him to know, and if possible come to the funeral. If you have an address, phone number, or whatever, could you let me know at chris@skerries.demon.co.uk, please? Thanks.

Chris

>Did you ever get down to the musters at the Cittie of York in Holborn? I used to go down with my mate Tom Gilmour. A few Civil War types used to drink in his local, the Dock & Duck at Palmers Green which is renowned as being the centre of the universe, and got us involved. Let's see, there was Martin Brain, Keith and Alison, Nell and her hubby and Ali Scott.

Eurogathering: Kiel: 4 - 6 May.

Who from the Portaferry gang is going there? I'm planning to go to Germany next month and will know after that if I'll be able to get to Kiel. If I do I might bring a couple of German friends.

Gerry, that's the beauty of these Mudcat gatherings, isn't it! After the first few songs all these folks who were strangers are suddenly friends!

Let's decide on a date for next year so I can put it on my calendar and have something to look forward to!   Either weekend is fine with me - I'm not a big observer of Lent!

As a precursor of next year the first Saturday in February is, the 1st of February. So we have either that one or the 8th to choose from. I have been reminded that Lent starts on the 6th next year, this may affect some people's choice.

The UK folk scene ain't big enough for 2 squeakers or sparkles for that matter, but who cares were here, were here.......

I'm still laughing, I have no cold/flu, but I'm starting to get a tickle in the back of my throat which won't clear.
I blame nothing but fresh London air.

Sparkles did in fact get to teenager spots and stars during an afternoon at fiddlers while ogling the rugby players on screen.

Liz is a very bad influence. But so is Andy. And Gulliver and Gerry- I won't even mention Skipjack and Oaks!

Sadly, this is probably true. No-one else admits to being Bavarian... although I do have another German friend... she might be a secret Bavarian!

Would hugging Icelanders be a cure?

Checklist: eyes, brain - in gear? Obsessed Giok? Hmmm!!

Andy & Bente: photos are Fab, Thanks!!! (Thanks for the Captions Bente!) Definitely looks like there may have been more music than singing this time, that Sparkles has definitely been well-handled - gone from a Virgin to a Fully-fledged Teenager in the time it takes to get on a Ferry :-)

Bit of a worry about the striking similarites if LtS & GtS - is the UK Festival scene ready for this I ask myself....

Bente: Ok, so what's a Banbury Curse???

Not long got back from my trip to Norfolk (went on the 13th Feb, - hardly had time to blow my nose, before packing to go off again).

The piccies and comments had me rolling on the floor squeaking and giggling. Heheheheheheheh.

As I said before - absolutely brilliant, if I don't plan for next year I'll be able to go. If I plan now, something will go wrong. Can't wait to meet everyone next year (I'm not planning!)

Doesn't sparkles look soooooo much better in the pics, especially after her 'puberty'.

She was a little tart this past week too. A couple of nights I had mini sessions (consisting of 3 people) at my friends home. She was used by a couple of gorgeous young lads. I'm telling you now, that sparkles is a little play around.

Those captions are very good for those who put up pics. I'm loving them all. My name is spelt Nicci or Nicolette though for future references.

Thank you all for making me feel so welcome. I had a wonderful albeit tiring time. Apparently I don't get drunk or hungover when drinking in Ireland.......mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

GTS - (NOT planning next years trip)

Well I am back home after a very music packed week! Portaferry was grand. Too bad about the "invaders" who came into Fiddler's on Saturday night, but the conservatory at Barholm was so nice that I think we should just hold the Saturday night concert/sessions there next year.   And the quiet Sunday singing session at Dumigans was just the way to cap off the weekend. It was so nice to meet Gizmo after chatting so much, and also to meet Liz and Manitas, Skipjack, Oaklet, and Gunna (aka Mrs. Skarpi!)as well as new Mudcatter Gulliver (really enjoyed his singing). I was happy to have a chance to see two old friends, Chris Caldwell and Stevie Mulholland who came by on Friday and played some tunes. There are too many highlights to list -I enjoyed it ALL - including the aquarium (a bargain at 20p!) and the drive Leadfingers and I took with the Skarpis where we saw St. Patrick's grave and hiked a little bit around the Mountains of Mourne. Of course my holiday didn't end there - I had some time in London where Terry escorted me around to the folk "hot spots" - Maidenhead, Herga and Sharps! I did get manage to take in a bit of non-music culture - spent an afternoon with Terry and LTS at the Victoria and Albert Museum. I only wish I could have stayed longer - it was all over much too soon!
