Subject: RE: Loughstock, Norn Iron gathering 2007 From: JohnB Date: 10 Jan 07 - 10:47 PM Skarpi, what I discovered on my last trip home (I live and drive in Canada now and have done both now longer here than there) Wherever you are in the world "if you have the correct vehicle for that area" THE DRIVER SITS ON THE WHITE LINE. Give it a try, it works for me, you can also get used to it while you are at home. GOOD LUCK read the small print, I don't accept any responsibility for anything, just ask my wife, JohnB |

Subject: RE: Loughstock, Norn Iron gathering 2007 From: MudGuard Date: 05 Jan 07 - 04:51 PM Paul, as I intend to stay at Hotel Draper: 17, 42, 3.1415926535, 2.7182818, 2007 (I hope these are enough numbers - if not, just tell me, I can provide more ...) ;-) Paul, a few years ago it was 48 pounds for the cab - single fare. Makes 96 pounds for the return trip. Up to 4 passengers per cab (gets very cramped then), i.e. 12 pounds per person single, 24 return. With 3 passengers it's 16 pounds single, 32 return. (plus price increasements over the last few years ...) I don't know the prices for hire cars ... |

Any word from Ciaran and the brother? Looks like I won't make it this year to Loughstock I'll be in Seattle and then Vancouver. Maybe next year. I'll plan for that. I'm saving me pennies for a cattle drive in Montana in September...don't ask. |

Skarpi - are you staying with us and how many of you will there be? We have space still for another 2-3 if they don't mind cuddling up. LTS |
Subject: RE: Loughstock, Norn Iron gathering 2007 From: Gizmo Date: 05 Jan 07 - 08:50 AM Thanks Manitas. Got that half sorted. Flights are now booked. Will like to meet with you and Squeak at Stratford for coach if that's alright? PM me with times etc As for guitar, I will buy hard case, but will take a fairly light guitar - I tend to do cheap and cheerful anyway. Allowed 20 kgs no questions, but extend up to a max of 35 KGs if it does go over. Or I could bring the 3/4 size nylon. Will decide at weekend. Got accomodation sorted just now - I'll be at Adairs! Thanks for the suggestions guys. I bet the next few weeks will go on forever now. |
Subject: RE: Loughstock, Norn Iron gathering 2007 From: manitas_at_work Date: 05 Jan 07 - 05:06 AM I haven't hired a car yet, as I don't know how many people are travelling in our party! I thought it might be easier to get a cab. Anyone wanting to stay over at the Draper's please let us know numbers! Gizmo, if you're travelling Easyjet like us then you will almost certainly have to check the guitar in as hold baggage as they don't have much room in the cabins so make sure you have a hard case. Also be aware of the weight limits they impose. |

Subject: RE: Loughstock, Norn Iron gathering 2007 From: Liz the Squeak Date: 04 Jan 07 - 05:54 PM The airlines are pretty good with guitars these days, just make sure you've got a hard case. LTS |
Subject: RE: Loughstock, Norn Iron gathering 2007 From: Gizmo Date: 04 Jan 07 - 05:48 PM While chatting to Leadfingers, found out flight number - will try to get same one. If so I'll let you know. Would certainly make journey more interesting. Just need to know what time most people will be flying back on Monday - and could I scrounge a lift back to the station? PM if you wish. I wil be travelling with an average size ruc sac and possibly a guitar. I have never been on a passenger plane before - what do I do? I assume rucsac would be hand luggage therefore what would guitar come under? I may treat myself to a cheap argos one so I won't cry if it gets damaged. It won't sound as good, but I'm not playing for money. |
Subject: RE: Loughstock, Norn Iron gathering 2007 From: Liz the Squeak Date: 04 Jan 07 - 05:12 PM Gizmo - there appears to be a coach party leaving from east London to the airport on Friday, so if your times are similar, we may be able to work something out. LTS |

Mananged to kiddies off to their grandparents - who will be jetting off to New Zealand and Australia this year, the first time they would have gone more than 2 weeks without seeing the kids, so are quite happy to have them. Subject: RE: Loughstock, Norn Iron gathering 2007 From: Declan Date: 04 Jan 07 - 01:55 PM I'm just butting in to your thread again to say the week-end in Ballyvaughan I referred to earlier is actually on the week-end commencing 16th February this year, which means that anyone who was staying on in Ireland after Loughstock could head down there. Ballyvaughan is a village near the Burren in North-West Clare. Each year around mid February it is invaded by a group of musicians and singers from various parts of Ireland, England and Wales who indulge in Music, singing, drinking, watching rugby and various other social activities. There are many cottages to rent in the area if people are thinking of coming along, although many of these will be booked by now. |
Subject: RE: Loughstock, Norn Iron gathering 2007 From: Maryrrf Date: 04 Jan 07 - 10:37 AM Gizmo, there may be rooms left at Fiddler's Green or Adairs - they are not expensive! Give them a call! |
Subject: RE: Loughstock, Norn Iron gathering 2007 From: Gizmo Date: 03 Jan 07 - 07:00 PM I really, really want to go - but have probably left it too late for cheap accomodation bookings etc, also I would kindly require a lift from the airport. I'm still working on babysitting for that weekend, as I definitely won't be able to afford for three of us to go. I'll be in touch soon |
Subject: RE: Loughstock, Norn Iron gathering 2007 From: Fibula Mattock Date: 03 Jan 07 - 12:12 PM hello all, When I was home over Christmas I asked Frank about the Quarterdeck (back room) on the Saturday. He doesn't manage the bar anymore, but said it might be okay. There's a guy doing food in the Quarterdeck nowadays, so I don't know the chances yet. I didn't get a chance to ask Grainne (Frank's daughter) as it was too busy when I was in over Christmas, but I've emailed them and am waiting for a reply. An alternative to the Quarterdeck is the beauifully refurbished conservatory at the hostel, which has amazing acoustics and the bonus of cheaper drink as you get to bring your own! (Plus less distance to fall into bed, and no chances of being locked out! :) (p.s. I will probably be partly present - now-ya-see-me, now-ya-don't - as my best friend is expecting her first baby and I'll be spending lots of quality girly time with her as I only get to see her when I make it over to Norn Iron.) |
