Adonis and Attis have long held
With Cybele and Diana
That the grove in Nemi
Grows tall with weeds
While Sappho grows moist grasses

Mares eat oats
And does eat oats
And litle lambs eat ivy
A kid'll eat ivy too
Wouldn't you?

Mine didn't exactly scan in the way TTR's did, but it was packed full of imagery. Unlike that of our spatula licking friend. . .

Hey, it was all I could think of that had a pastoral setting, five lines, and something resembling a rhyme scheme. Anyway, this thread's far too obsessed with itself to care whether any particular poster's work is original or not.

mirror mirror on the net
who's your favorite posting pet
Could it be my poor sweet self
Gazing at you on my shelf?

How I hope with sturgid aims
To recklessly revoke your claims
With arduous self deprication
Concealing our infatuation

Chasing Thalia leads to failya
In to vicious Circes turning
If the muse ya would pursue, ya
Need your after-burners burning.
Break the mold of fond reflection,
Lose your Narcissian erection,
Or, instead, the hurkle-jerkle
Will consume you in its circle.

My great uncle
Had a carbuncle
Right on the bottom of his rump
Armed with a mirror,
He gazed on his posterior
...Except when he had to take a dump.

I doubt yours is any more interesting than mine...

...And now a brief word from our sponsor...

This thread was brought to you by 'total denial' of the relevancy of this indictment. Any similarities between this document's earnest well researched assertions... and the 'conspiracy theory' confusionists... are purely coincidental.

And now back to our regularly scheduled self obsession...

Actually, now that I mention it... my navel is absolutely engrossing too! Oh how inspiring this all is! You know... properly rhymed and chorded, my introspective inflections and reflections on my navel are MUCH DEEPER than they first appear! ...and with the right marketing...

I missed the mark with my ditty--going too far back and into left field. Interesting story.

Don't mention it my little pretty...

At least you were in the Ballpark! Amos, on the other hand was off on his own 'Onan the destroyer' episode... and quite out of radio reception for most of the series...

Enhanced by instinct's situations
Narcissus descants sensations
A dual drama unfulfilled
In view of pastures left untilled

Reflections oft are right and left
Each alone is found bereft
To dawdle in confused delight
Quite unaware it can't requite

And more complex psychologies
Emerge from frail dualities
When each side sees only derision
without the context to envision

And poor Narcissus as a nation
Wastes away in indignation
Against it self it's goals umpugn

Sorry... How'd that happen?

Enhanced by instinct's situations
Narcissus descants sensations
Of dual dramas unfulfilled
In view of pastures left untilled

Reflections oft are right and left
Each alone is found bereft
To dawdle in confused delight
Quite unaware it can't requite

And more complex psychologies
Emerge from frail dualities
When each side sees only derision
without a context to envision

And poor Narcissus as a nation
Wastes away in indignation
Against it's self it's goals umpugn
To Liberty's forgotten tune

We, his conscience and his soul
Are people born but to extol
In virtue revels love's ambition
To heal and impart transition

That's nice of you, but I looked at the antiquity of the "speakers" more than their message, and lobbed back more ancient speakers but with a message from Sappho that scholars suggest was lost (for a while) in translation. They were all self-centered, but not so much so as your New Narcissus.

Not like the brazen giant of bleak fame,
With conquering limbs astride from Afghan to Iran;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch . . .

Who should beat the fool over the head with it
until he gets some sense
and leaves everyone else alone

Alas... for the thrill of arguements we forget our calling to higher purpose... and in disagreements over spices, burn the soup.

You're so vain you probably think this thread is about you, don't you, don't you, don't you.
It isn't. It's about itself, and that's beyond argument.
