Subject: new DG melodeon tutor book From: buttonbox Date: 16 Sep 06 - 05:33 AM George Garsides new Dg Melodeon Tutor Book is now available. ''DG Melodeon, A crash Course for Beginners''. This is part of a series of 'Without the Crap Books'tm. Unlike other tutor books it avoids musical theory as much as possible and concentrates on instrument technique. Similarly it is not a thinly disguised 'tune book' as it is easier to apply new techniques to tunes already learned. This book is designed with one purpose only & that is to kickstart new players in around 10 weeks ( but can be used as revision by those whose box has not seen daylight for some time!) It is divided into ten easy to follw workshops and includes information on learning by ear and playing from memory. More info direct from george garside at georgegarside@talktalk.net BB |

Subject: RE: new DG melodeon tutor book From: The Sandman Date: 16 Sep 06 - 08:14 AM GREG You cant be serious. the d/ g button accordion is[ when played thoughtfully using row crossing,] an instrument that is very suitable for Irish music. the two and half row is even better allowing one to play more tunes in a major. because of the ease of playing correct chords [if wanted]unlike the b / c which can be very awkward in d major, bass wise. it is ideal for playing in noisy pubs, secondly no guitarist is required, alot of b c players seem to need a guitar.the use of row crossing is also very useful for ornamentation, in fact the g d in the hands of a good player can sound, quote [ like a ruddy orchestra ]and has great scope for fiddle rolls and other ornamentation. The button box also has copies of my tutorThe CONCISE ENGLISH CONCERTINA, which has in depth analysis of irish ornamentation and how to execute it on the english, plus advice on song accompaniment. Subject: RE: new DG melodeon tutor book From: Mr Happy Date: 16 Sep 06 - 10:11 AM I used 'Mally's Melodeon Methods' to start with, but after I'd learnt to play 'Skip to my loo', 'Bobby Shaftoe' & 'In & out the windows',I threw it aside & learnt other new tunes by ear. Also experimented with 'The Button Box' for B/C button accordeon - very complicated - for some time have been looking to swop B/C for G/C melodeon. Any swoppers out there? |

Subject: RE: new DG melodeon tutor book From: greg stephens Date: 17 Sep 06 - 05:32 AM Let's hear one of your whippet's jokes for comparison, Jim. Now, my joke wasn't that funny, but it was very old, which makes it appropriate for a folk forum. |
