Subject: Lyr Add: TURNING BACK THE PAGES (R. A. Edmondson) From: Susan of DT Date: 16 Sep 06 - 11:28 AM Here is a song I heard at Fylde last month in response to some of the school board idiocies lately in the US. ^^ TURNING BACK THE PAGES (Robert. A. Edmondson) We are turning back the pages in the U S A The Age of Unenlightenment is where we want to stay Now the teachers in our schools may not corrupt our youth The Biblical Old Testament contains the only truth That creatures all were made at once six thousand years ago The mammoth and the squirrel, the dinosaur and doe As well as all the insect, the scorpions and spiders The algae and bacteria and things that live inside us. Cho: We are turning back the pages to the medieval ages To count the angels on a pin, Say Darwin has the Devil's grin. To study fossils is a sin We are turning back the pages We are turning back the pages in the U S A We know mankind and trilobites appeared within a day The grasses and the mushrooms, the ferns and every flower Appeared together on this earth within the selfsame hour There was no evolution from the small plants to the large The mass of so-called evidence is under Satan's charge If lecturers do not tell students this is what occurred We will have them all arrested – heresy's the word. We are turning back the pages in the U S A Unbelievers and the skeptics will no longer get their way We will close town all the colleges that do not share our views And finding of new fossils will not be in the news But why stop there, we ask ourselves, when we should aim much higher All books on evolution should be on the funeral pyre We ought to raid the libraries, your private homes and schools Because these works of Satan should not be read by fools. In spite of scientist's rages By slow and steady stages cho…sin Throw Richard Dawkins in the bin We are turning back the pages We are turning back the pages Copyright Robert A. Edmondson @science @political @evolution filename[ TURNBACK By the way, I saw an article in the Chronicle of Higher Education the other week that mentioned that the latest list of subjects approved for study eligible for federal funds was missing a subject that had previously been on the list - Evolutionary Biology. The administration insisted that was an accident and it really was still approved and on the list. |

I got the impression he'd written it. |
