From: GUEST,masha Date: 25 Sep 06 - 06:46 PM Tom Paley will be doing a house-concert in Amador County, California, about 1 hour southeast of Sacramento, October 29th. This is a very rare opportunity to hear a true master in a comfortable, intimate setting... oh, ok, so it's my living room! email me for info: masha at banjodancer dot com, and spread the word if you know anyone in that neck of the woods. oh, and you're right, the NLCR were Great at BOTMC! And the highlight of the weekend for me was dancing with Mike Seeger - what a wonderful dancer! |
Subject: RE: New Lost City Ramblers documentary? From: Severn Date: 20 Sep 06 - 03:50 AM Whoops! I was exploring the other related NLCR threads mentioned at the top of this thread and thought I was responding to the Bang Boys one and the post for that ended up here. Sorry. Joe, you can move or eliminate that last one. Hell, and this one too.... |
Subject: RE: New Lost City Ramblers documentary? From: Severn Date: 20 Sep 06 - 03:42 AM "My Sweet Farm Girl" is included on the anthology, "The New Lost City Ramblers-The Early Years 1958-1962", along with "Sal's Got A Meatskin" from "Volume 3" that would have been quite at home on the Bang Boys release. |

Subject: RE: New Lost City Ramblers documentary? From: toadfrog Date: 18 Sep 06 - 10:01 PM An on-line investigation says that the film is being partially funded by Arhoolie Foundation and that one of its authors would be a Brendan Choisnet. Does any of that ring a bell with anyone? |

Subject: RE: New Lost City Ramblers documentary? From: open mike Date: 18 Sep 06 - 12:36 AM If you are interested in hearing another of the band members, Tom Paley will be touring the West Coast in October. He was one of the founding members. Thanks to them, some of us knew and loved the old time music WAAAYYY before Oh Brother Where Art Thou got the modern masses introduced to the music. He will be playing in Chico California on October 21. e-mail me for more dates in the tour schedule. veraloe@cncnet.com |
Subject: RE: New Lost City Ramblers documentary? From: GUEST,Art Thieme Date: 18 Sep 06 - 12:12 AM I've not heard about this, but it will be well received when it does see the light of day. These guys "quadruplehandedly" (count 'em -- 4 -- Mike, John Tracy and Tom) instigated the entire revival of interest in Old Time Music. That's certainly no overstatement. Thanks to all of you for showing ua the path. Art Thieme |
Subject: New Lost City Ramblers documentary? From: toadfrog Date: 17 Sep 06 - 10:59 PM Much to my surprise, I see no threads on this year's Berkeley Old Time Music Convention. It is well worth mentioning. The New Lost City Ramblers played (extremely well, as they still can--Mike Seeger especially). To me it was an extremely exciting occasion, and v. possibly the last chance I'll ever have to see any of them live. There was a very impressive cameraman there filming the performance, and we were told someone is preparing a documentary on the Ramblers. Does anyone know about this, and if so, do they know if it will be available to retail customers when it is completed? |
