Subject: RE: Looking for musicians for Dublin session From: Fliss Date: 17 Oct 06 - 06:40 PM I do like Dublin. Ive been a couple of times since 2001. Stayed at the Comhaltas Hq in Monkstown. Bit of distance to go to things in Dublin centre at night. Will have to save up for another trip and do b&b nearer. Ive not got any Irish blood, although my kids have. But I always feel a sence of homecoming when I see the Irish coast from the ferry. Same as when I get back home to Shropshire. By the way we have the best Irish Music session this side of the Irish Sea at the Boat Inn, Jackfield every Thursday evening. slan leat fliss |
Subject: RE: Looking for musicians for Dublin session From: Shiamsa Date: 16 Oct 06 - 10:57 PM Yes, we were there on Saturday, although I was supposed to play in Laois. Sixteen musicians arrived from Manchester (the Manchester Accoustic Music Initiative, I think they are called), so it turned out to be a real Manchester evening. Looking forward to meeting up with them in Manchester sometime soon. |

Subject: RE: Looking for musicians for Dublin session From: Shiamsa Date: 06 Oct 06 - 10:05 PM We met up at the Garda Club last night with a few musicians from another session. The tin-whistle player went to the bar to get a bottle of alcohol-free beer. The barman said it was the first time he'd ever been asked for alcohol-free beer--and this in the Garda (ie, Police) Club! |

Subject: RE: Looking for musicians for Dublin session From: MartinRyan Date: 03 Oct 06 - 07:50 AM Probably safe enough in the Garda Club.... Regards p.s. I once gave up going to a particular folk club because it always ran too late and I was in no state to work next morning. It was directly across from the Garda station! |
Subject: RE: Looking for musicians for Dublin session From: Shiamsa Date: 02 Oct 06 - 08:34 PM Sorry, no maps. The venue is the bar (downstairs) in the Garda Club, Harrington Street (near Kelly's Corner). Starts 9:30 every Saturday. Might start earlier if we get a bigger crowd. Finishes in the wee hours. |

Subject: RE: Looking for musicians for Dublin session From: Shiamsa Date: 28 Sep 06 - 10:23 PM Many thanks to all who have replied to above. I just need to point out that it's a very informal mixed singing and playing (tunes) session, and we're still finding our way, but of course all interested are welcome. thanks, Shiamsa |
Subject: Looking for musicians for Dublin session From: Shiamsa Date: 27 Sep 06 - 08:26 PM A few locals in the Portobello area of Dublin (south-city) have a new venue for a session on Saturday nights, and are looking for singers, players and listeners. Songs and tunes, Irish, old-time country, contemporary folk, etc. Near Camden Street. Anyone interested can contact dconlan@iol.ie (subject: SESSION) Thanks |
