Subject: Cowbow Cultural Society From: John on the Sunset Coast Date: 28 Sep 06 - 10:01 PM cowboyculturalsociety.com has been my 'go to' music site for past week plus. I do not recall who posted CCS on another thread, but bless you, fellow catter, thank you. |
Subject: RE: Cowbow Cultural Society From: GUEST,Pamela from Ithaca Date: 28 Sep 06 - 11:13 PM This has been one of my husband's favorites. Great stuff, although the content repeats frequently. He especially likes the fact that all the songs, like the poems and stories, tell stories. Like the bluegrass programs presented by bluegrasscountry.org, the music is accessible and rememberable. |
Subject: RE: Cowbow Cultural Society From: Scoville Date: 29 Sep 06 - 11:08 AM Cowboy Cultural Society, just to make it easier to share the wealth. |
Subject: RE: Cowboy Cultural Society From: katlaughing Date: 30 Sep 06 - 09:29 AM This is the first time I've had a chance to listen to it. Wonderful!! My dad would have loved this and I know my grandson will. Thanks from me, too. |
Subject: RE: Cowboy Cultural Society From: GUEST,Dale Date: 30 Sep 06 - 10:20 AM Glad to have suggested it on the other thread and that others are enjoying it, too. It has been one of my favorite listening choices for several years, along with Radio Newfoundland http://www.radionewfoundland.net/ and Saturday Night Country from Australia http://www.abc.net.au/snc/mod_snc.htm . Those are excellent choices as well. I just happened to think, while those are my three "standbys" to listen to, they are all presented in a different manner. CCS is a playlist repeated until she gets around to changing it, SNC with John Nutting is a four hour show archived until the next Saturday show and RNF is live. |
Subject: RE: Cowboy Cultural Society From: open mike Date: 30 Sep 06 - 01:19 PM my radio show in december will feature a cowboy theme, too. stay tuned for details...KRBS .... on the second sunday of each month...DECEMBER 10,2006... will feature 2 hours of cowboy music and poetry. I will actually not be there live in the studio, as i will be on the video crew of the Monterey Cowboy Music and Poetry Festival that weekend, and will pre-record my show to be broadcast from 1-3 p.m. pacific time. I now co-host the show Music Along the Feather on sundays. i have received a bunch of "new'; material, some archived from the 'library of congress of old timey cattle calls and stories collected directly from the cowboys themselves. |
Subject: RE: Cowboy Cultural Society From: katlaughing Date: 30 Sep 06 - 03:10 PM I look forward to it, open mike! Dave, thanks for the additional links! |
Subject: RE: Cowboy Cultural Society From: GUEST,Francis the Drake Date: 30 Jan 11 - 06:48 AM Unfortunately after Laura Ellen passed away in 2007 CCS ceased to exist. I only infrequently checked it out, but "yippeeeh!" last week I found it was streanming again! Check the CCS homepage and click on the stream you prefer, that's how I did it and it's now coming via Shoutcast Radio. It's the same good music! Thanks to those who must have really large can of CCS and have resurrected CCS. Please keep going. |
Subject: RE: Cowboy Cultural Society From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 30 Jan 11 - 02:09 PM Great! Stuff the ballot box for CCS. |
Subject: RE: Cowboy Cultural Society From: open mike Date: 30 Jan 11 - 03:05 PM I am glad to hear that the CCS is on line... It probably is thanks to KPIG radio and the folks at Radio Paradise another source of (authentic) cowboy content is the western folklife center's audio and video "cyber cast" which can be found at www.westernfolklife.org. These recordings originate from the national cowboy gathering in elko, Nevada, and other projects sponsored by the center, such as "deep west video" which is grass-roots (literally..as grass is the base of most grazing operations and ranches!) The 2011 annual gathering was this last weekend and there are many hours of new material which have just been added!! Hooray for Laura Ellen... http://www.louielouie.net/pix-2007/kpig-laura-ellen.jpg http://articles.sfgate.com/2007-06-08/bay-area/17247378_1_santa-cruz-fm-radio-sound-bites http://www.kpig.com/index.cfm/laura_ellen.htm |
