clicked on one video at random, "Andy James "Walk gently on the earth".

sorry, but this is uninspired singer-songwriter angst at its worst, complete with all the standard guitar clichés.

and poor video quality to boot.

I hope some more of you might try my 70 plus original videos and growing dont expect wonders I am only a hammerchewer and most if the vids I have placed on nthe site are under 1mb as they came from my MSN group which only permits upto 1mb uploads. In time I will improve resolution, but obviouslt these things take time at the moment I am just over the moon to be able to share these endeavours with the world.

All banjo players should check out this link to youtube. Don't stop with the Earl and Steve Martin clip. Look at the vintage John Hartford clips as well. There's stuff from the Glen Campbell show and dancing stuff with the bowler and the piece of plywood.

Richard you search by the name you are seeking when videos are posted to youtube the posters should fill in the tags box which indexes the video so it is linked with chosen subjects it pays also if you are posting videos of performers who are not world famous to tag them to a few big names of a similar type so folks searching may stumble across them.
ie Bottleneck Bil who is a country blues performer I have tagged to words like blues country acoustic guitar slide robert johnson fred mcdowell etc etc

Richard, I'm not sure what's not to get in Youtube - you search you find. I rather like it.

As an aside one of the co-founders has recently announced that his aim is to, within 18 months, have every music video ever created available on the site for FREE. And they are in discussion with record companies to that end.

Now that is a bewildering thought even if he only gets a little way towards it

Some nice tunes on the site Jim

Well, it's a bit like a library being a pile of books with no Dewey system to help in browsing....

PS, there are going to be LOTS of old vids that are unclearable, because the old clearances will have been for limited time or limited uses....

Anyone trying to gather everything is doomed to failure - but it is a pretty astounding thing in scale to even contemplate

Youtube is as easy to navigate as most big sites. On a whim I thought I'd like to hear My Back Pages from the Dylan anniversary concert years back. I search for "Bob Dylan My Back pages anniversary" and there are two versions there - AND nothing else on the search and I think that is impressive.

Hey guys,

I LOVE John Hartford but I just found an amazing acoustic fingerstyle guitarist on youtube. He plays a Wechter Pathmaker and his stuff is all some kind of far-out Preston Reed stuff. Go to youtube.com and type in "Patrick Woods". What you hear will blow you away. It's other-worldly how he gets those sounds out of that thing. I've watched and watched and I don't have a single, freakin' clue as to how those rhythms are happening at the same time the melody line is going on.

I just love the one of Richard and Mimi Farina singing Pack up your sorrows, with Pete Seeger helping out. The only problem is, it took about 20-30 minutes to download - so I left my computer on overnight so I could watch it again in the morning.
Wonderful! They're so young and beautiful and intense.

Meanwhile, getting back to Original Acoustic videos, I have to say, Jim, that much though I admire what you are doing, I do find that your over-liberal sprinklings of " amazing " " legendary " " incredible " and similar superlatives in the video descriptions rather grating.

You do have some fine performers on there (Dave Peabody being one outstanding example) but you also feature some other performers whose abilities, at least going by what they show on the videos, hardly merit such fulsome praise.

Maybe you should just let the performances speak for themselves ?

I found the link on another thread but I've lost it again. It's somewhere around here..... someone will know.
There seemed to be several of Pete but my computer's too slow to cope.

YouTube is amazing, so long as you put a little effort into using it.

Think of it as a ramshackle seconhand bookshop (except the books are free.) Hunt around and you find treasures, and ignore the crap. Type something in the search engine and the most unexpected things can turn up to delight you - for example, I typed in "concertinas" and found this splendid bunch of Portuguese musicians - none of them playing what I'd call a concertina, but that hardly matters.
................

I haven't yet done more than look at a couple of Jim Clarks videos. Anyone who read that nameless GUEST's put down ("uninspired singer-songwriter angst at its worst"), ignore it - so far as I could see pretty well all the videos are sogs thtabhave been around for a long time, mostly traditional.

Look here for a treasure

Thanx for your support Mcgrath,

Yes I have recorded several singer songwriters over the years who were realy excellent, but yes I am personaly rather more interested in the folk blues and world music field, but its always nice to be surprised by something realy great that you havent heard before.

Ref Murrays comments I am sure the viewer will judge for themselves whether they like a performance or not,but I reserve the right to express my own opinion tempered with what little knowledge I have of the folks in my videos so sorry if my "Hyperbolic" language grates, but if I wasnt enthusiastic about the videos I have posted I wouldnt have gone to all the trouble. Just watch and come to your own conclusions is all I ask. I like the videos I have posted and it wil be nice if a few others do too,but personaly I am not bothered one way or the other.

Heres that pesky link again...

Regards and thanx to all the Mudcatters for the interest you have shown

go to the main forum page by clicking on the "forum home" link at the bottom of this message.

go to the box marked "Filter" at the top of the page, and input "Youtube".

alter the Age to "All" and click Refresh.

this will bring up all the threads on Youtube so far.
