Wrigley Head Morris Men (Probably the best North West morris team in the world) are looking for a place to practice in the Oldham area must be cheap (preferably free) and access to a bar of some kind an advantage. We only practice once a month, three or four times during the winter months, which is how we maintain our flawless performances. A pub back room would be ideal, we dont practice in clogs, so we won't splinter the floor!

Hi John J, the pack horse doesn't have a back room, when we last danced around there(in the eighties)we used a near by school hall (now demolished I think)in winter, and the car park of the pack horse was used in summer, it was a bit naff even then, times change, so do landlords. we're too old to be practicing in the rain and snow, and as most of us travel 30 to 50 miles to get to practice, and only practice monthly, we don't want to have to cancel

Try the Railway and Linnet, Grimshaw Lane, by Middleton Junction. They have an excellent upstairs room where the Open Door folk club was briefly located, until the prat of a husband of the landlady chucked us out for having the temerity to expect to be served beer in a pub...!

I believe it's a different tenant now...

My team in Canada practise for free in the downstairs hall of an old folks home. We "pay rent" acouple of times a year by dancing at some special occasion for the "inmates". Try looking around your area, which for me is way too far back and long ago, although my old school bud Alan Crook used to play snare drum for your team.

Alexis by the way is third from the right in the 2006 picture titled "the Wall" the words pot, kettle and black come to mind. Where were you at todays practice by the way, I hope you've got a note from your mum!!

Did you check out the Railway and Linnet on Grimshaw Lane? Their upstairs function room is big enough, and away from the noise of the pub - which works both ways!!

I'd hardly call Wrigley Head "quaint" or what they do as "frolicking"! They need the practice though to hone their already fine renditions of the "traditional" Oldham dances to perfection. Can't anybody find them somewhere to practice?

Is Greenfield too far for you Mike? The Conservative Club is very welcoming and they have a huge function room which is under used at the moment. The committee are great - we hold our meetings there - and the drinks are cheap!
