Subject: Dan Schatz in Warrington, PA 10/6/06 From: Dan Schatz Date: 02 Oct 06 - 02:38 PM I don't get the chance to perform too many solo concerts lately, but I'll be doing one this Friday, October 6, beginning at 7:30 at the BuxMont Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Warrington, Pennsylvania. When I offered a concert as an item at the fellowship's annual goods and services auction, a number of members pooled their resources; this performance is the result. It'll be a mixture of traditional music and music influenced by tradition - some of my tunes and some of my favorites. The BuxMont UU Fellowship is on Street Road, just east of 611 in Warrington, PA - due north of Philadelphia, and about 10 minutes North of the Willow Grove exit on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Directions can be found here. Perhaps I'll see some of you there! Dan Schatz |

Subject: RE: Dan Schatz in Warrington, PA From: Greg B Date: 03 Oct 06 - 03:44 PM What is it about Unitarians and folk music? Seems like a lot of Unitarian fellowships lend their facility as a folk venue. The NJ Folk Project now has their Minstrel Coffeehouse at the Morristown Unitarian Fellowship, the same one where William Main Doerflinger was a member for decades. |

Subject: RE: Dan Schatz in Warrington, PA From: George Papavgeris Date: 05 Oct 06 - 04:41 AM So, when are you coming to Europe again, Dan? Are NxTr still active? What is it going to take to bring you over? |
|
Subject: RE: Dan Schatz in Warrington, PA From: Allan C. Date: 05 Oct 06 - 07:53 AM An off-the-cuff answer to GregB's question (above) is that Unitarians are typically folks who have chosen a somewhat off-the-beaten-path alternative -- not unlike those who have chosen folk music. |

Subject: RE: Dan Schatz in Warrington, PA From: Dan Schatz Date: 05 Oct 06 - 10:57 AM NexTradition is still active - Ken and Allison recently did the firsat of the Jean Ritchie concert series on Long Island. I haven't yet been to Europe myself - but I'm open to offers. It might take the loan of a 12-string.... I was raised a Unitarian Universalist and a folkie, but these were largely seperate existences. I continue to be off-the-beaten-path in both areas. Dan Schatz |

Subject: RE: Dan Schatz in Warrington, PA From: SharonA Date: 05 Oct 06 - 01:28 PM Wow, this concert is a stone's throw away from me! Sounds like it'll be an early evening, too, which would be good for me since I have two gigs the following day. Maybe I'll just come to hear you, Dan! Sharon |

Subject: RE: Dan Schatz in Warrington, PA From: Greg B Date: 05 Oct 06 - 03:37 PM Please don't be throwing stones, Sharon. I live nearby, too, and have lots of windows. |

Subject: RE: Dan Schatz in Warrington, PA From: SharonA Date: 05 Oct 06 - 05:26 PM Don't worry, Greg. I live in a glass house myself. *grin* Dan, thanks for asking! Maybe I should post this in a new thread, but since you expressed interest I'll put it here too: During the day on October 7th, I will be playing at the Quakertown (PA)"Autumn Alive" Arts Fest on an outdoor stage, on the main street in the "old" section of town (Route 313, east of Route 309). I'll be performing as a member of the Bucks County Folk Song Society, and more specifically as a member of the folk/blues/bluegrass trio "Jacobs Creek", from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. We'll be playing some standards such as San Francisco Bay Blues, Foggy Mountain Breakdown and Rocky Top, plus original songs (some written by me, some by my bandmate Nick). Here's a map: X marks the spot where we'll play In the evening on Oct 7th, I'll be the opening act at a house concert in Glenside, PA (again, just east of Route 309, but further south, much closer to Philadelphia). I'll be opening for Don White from Massachusetts, funny-story-teller and funnysong-singer extraordinaire, so I was asked to come perform some of my own funny/punny original songs (but Don gets all the money -- $12 admission). Should be an evening of high spirits... topped off by a post-concert jam. If you go, the hosts ask that you bring a snack to share that doesn't require heating or other preparation. Call to pre-register and get directions: Don White's schedule with contact numbers Hope to see you tomorrow at your show, Dan! Sharon |

Arrive early so you can find a parking space on the street! Here's the Glenside website with more info: Glenside House Concerts |

Subject: RE: Dan Schatz in Warrington, PA From: SharonA Date: 05 Oct 06 - 05:52 PM Just checked the Quakertown map that I linked, only to find that when one zooms in on it, there are two X's marking two spots. The X where we'll be playing is the one on West Broad Street between 2nd and 3rd streets. |

Subject: RE: Dan Schatz in Warrington, PA From: Dunkle Date: 07 Oct 06 - 07:45 AM Well, that was a pleasant experience. I was glad to meet you last night, Dan, and wanted to thank you here for having posted your concert info here on Mudcat. I feel that we made a 'discovery' last night, not having heard your music before, but coming away impressed with your musicianship (I've got to say that for a moment I was thinking of secreting that 12-string of yours out under my coat when you weren't looking...), your voice, sense of humor, choice of songs, etc. etc. - So thanks again, and I hope we run into each other again soon. Dunkle |

Subject: RE: Dan Schatz in Warrington, PA From: Dan Schatz Date: 08 Oct 06 - 02:16 PM Thanks, Dunkle! It was good to meet some Mudcatters at the concert. My wife and I hosted a folk music picnic last Spring - hopefully we'll be able to do the same thing again next Spring or Summer, so we can all hear each other. The 12-string was made by Nick Apollonio from Rockport, Maine - it's cherry with a cedar top, and I keep it tuned four frets below normal. Thanks again for coming and for the good words! Dan Schatz |

Subject: RE: Dan Schatz in Warrington, PA From: SharonA Date: 15 Oct 06 - 12:09 PM I was able to make it to the concert as well, and met Dan. What a nice evening! I was very impressed with Dan's proficiency on his instruments, and in particular I was dazzled by his autoharp-playing. I've never seen anyone change chord-buttons to play pickup notes before! The man has got some fast fingers, lemme tellya. He's no slouch when it comes to singing, either. I got to hear some traditional songs that were new to me, as well as some of Dan's original compositions. All in all, a very enjoyable experience. Hope you'll do it again soon, Dan! I'd be interested in attending that picnic, too, if/when it happens. Take care, Sharon |
