Subject: Audlem Bagpipe and Hurdy Gurdy Day From: maldenny Date: 05 Oct 06 - 06:03 PM The annual Audlem Bagpipe and Hurdy Gurdy will be held on Saturday 11th November this year. The day starts in the Shroppie Fly (one of Audlem's three pubs) at 12.30 p.m. til 5.30 p.m., and continues in the evening at one of the other two pubs from around 6.00 p.m. onwards (the Lord Combermere has gone smoke-free this year). Food is available in all three pubs, and there's a good choice of beers. It's stayed a smallish event, around 30 musicians last year, but all are welcome (and we'd especially like to see your nyckelharpa this year, Sarah, if you're out there!). If you want any further info, you can contact Mal direct at :-mal_denny@yahoo.co.uk |

Subject: RE: Audlem Bagpipe and Hurdy Gurdy Day From: maldenny Date: 06 Oct 06 - 08:09 AM Sorry Ian, Audlem is in Cheshire, U.K. It was the 2005 Calor Northern Village of the Year and Defra "building community life" national winner. I don't live there, but there always seems to be something going on, and we have a session there every Monday evening. The website mentioned by Gedpipes (http://www.audlem.org/) gives a good feel for the place. Hope you can make it. |

Subject: RE: Audlem Bagpipe and Hurdy Gurdy Day From: Fred McCormick Date: 18 Oct 06 - 06:53 AM Oh hell, that's the day Bill Wymans's Rhthym Kings are playing New Brighton. Will there be enough happening to tempt one down from Merseyside for the day ? To make it back to New Broighton, I'd have to leave by 6pm at the latest. |
Subject: RE: Audlem Bagpipe and Hurdy Gurdy Day From: greg stephens Date: 18 Oct 06 - 09:36 AM No contest, Bill Wyman doesnt play the hurdy-gurdy. Or he didn't the last time I saw him. |
Subject: RE: Audlem Bagpipe and Hurdy Gurdy Day From: Fred McCormick Date: 18 Oct 06 - 01:44 PM No, but you wanna hear him playing down home country blues on the Asturian bagpipe. (Only kidding). |
Subject: RE: Audlem Bagpipe and Hurdy Gurdy Day From: Mo the caller Date: 19 Oct 06 - 09:21 AM We went last year, good session in the afternoon. It was thinning out a bit when we left to go to an evening dance. (maybe they came back after we'd gone) |
Subject: RE: Audlem Bagpipe and Hurdy Gurdy Day From: maldenny Date: 20 Oct 06 - 06:09 AM Fred, it's only an hour and a bit from New Brighton, what time is he on? By the way, is New Brighton still famous for "Fur coats and no Knickers?" |
Subject: RE: Audlem Bagpipe and Hurdy Gurdy Day From: GUEST Date: 20 Oct 06 - 08:32 AM The Rhythm Kings concert is 19-30 hrs, which means I will have to miss the evening's events. Even so, it sounds like an afternoon trip to Audlem would be a good idea. Fur Coats and no knickers? Have you ever felt the wind that blows up there on a freezing cold winter's night ? |

Subject: RE: Audlem Bagpipe and Hurdy Gurdy Day From: Fred McCormick Date: 10 Nov 06 - 04:47 AM Disaster has struck! The person who was to have looked after my dog now can't and I'll have to bring him with me. Does anybody know whether the pubs in Audlem are (well behaved) dog friendly ? BTW., is not the least bit bothered by bagpipes. |
