On the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month, around fifteen of us meet in the Snug at the Railway Hotel, Heatley, Lymm, Cheshire to sing traditional and traditional-style songs.

It's the same pub which hosts the very popular Railway Folk Club on Thursday evenings.

Check our website for any last minute changes.

One of our regulars is none other than that intrepid explorer and singer/songwriter Ted Edwards, who would be delighted to see you and chat about old times! Assuming you're old enough to have old times to chat about - otherwise, chat about owt else that takes yer fancy!

Most of our regulars are also Mudcatters, so maybe they'll drop in to this thread and add their two penn'orth!

Stop making excuses and come along one night - we usually get under way around 9:00pm, finishing some time after 11:20pm.

The pub is CAMRA listed, and has some excellent real ales on tap, with different guest beers each week. If you don't like beer (?!!), there's other stuff which may suit you...

Would that be the same Railway where the well known singer and multi-instrumentalist B. Cromarty Esq performs?

If so then I must make the effort and make the trip.

John

Hey JJ --what about mentioning the beer?

It is a lovely relaxed evening. Lots of songs, lots of humour and fine company.

Come along and sample the atmosphere--and the beer!

I'll be there on Wednesday then!

All this is true and more. It's just the conflict between a great night, Timothy Taylor Landlord, Black Sheep (?) and a drive back to Manchester. We can manage by bike up the Transpennine Way in daylight but it's a bit tricky in the dark!

Best of luck.

Les

Nethen, Les, over the past few weeks we've had Hobgoblin in addition to Landlord and Black Sheep... torches are cheap enough!!

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

We manage to fit the odd song or two in between the beer, Alan.

Sometimes very odd songs indeed.

Looking forward to seeing you all there tomorrow night at The Railway Hotel, Heatly, Lymm, Cheshire.

Thanks for raising the thread Bernard and for reminding us that it's TONIGHT!
Bernard Cromarty, for those who don't know is a fine singer of both traditional and contemptible folksong, multi instrumentalist, radio producer, recording engineer, webmaster, etc etc. In fact, if it wasn't for the quality of some of his jokes, you might be missled into the belief that there was nothing that wasn't good at.

Anyway, we look forward to seeing Bernard, and all those who love traditional and traditional style folksong TONIGHT at the Railway.

Thanks, Al... the fiver's in the post!

Don't forget there's a real possibility of all that beer going off if someone doesn't come along to help us sup it... erm... 'ang on, if people turned up there wouldn't be as much for us... on second thoughts, STAY AWAY!!

Ken, you'd be most welcome in the Snug whenever you're up this way again - especially if you could persuade Peta to join you. However it means I'll have to stop singing "What Will We Do?", and Yvonne will have to drop "I Will Go With My Father A-Ploughing"!

I'll promise to come and visit the Musical Traditions club when next in London.

Tom and Anne

So lovely to hear from you both. I lost your email address.
Enjoy the Lakes and come see us in The Snug soon.

Would be so good if you could join us in The Snug one night too, Ken.

The Railway is one of the few pubs left around Lymm that the developers' have not transformed into a 'Tapas Bar'. So come and sample it whilst it lasts! Good beer, good company and excellent music in a decent pub--bliss.

Yvonne

As the slug said to the snail... 'Big Issue?!'

Guest... it's a pub! The place seems popular enough, albeit in need of some redecoration (which the new tenants are working on), so draw your own conclusions... we do have a 'no smoking' policy these days.

If your preference is for the plastic antiseptic pub with no character, then the Railway is not for you - but it regularly wins CAMRA awards.

Did we mention the beer?

Hi Yvonne,Mathew, Bernie,Ted and all at the snug. Tom and Ann too. Haven't seen you all in ages mainly because we've taken a second home in San Francisco and the expense (ow!) has put a bit of a crimp in our overseas travel. Our house in the Santa Cruz mountains is only about 50 miles from SF but I was doing so much stuff up there that the drive back at midnight over those mountain roads after a couple of jars was getting a bit dicey and hotels are outasight! So we got a place in SF as well and now we only have to stay in it a hundred nights a year for the next twenty years for it to pay off!
Sure do miss you folks though and the good booze, songs and company at the Railway, and the Snug.
Tarrah fer now, see thi in September ah 'ope
Malcolm

Good to hear from you Malc, and looking forward to meeting again when you come over. Have you been recording any more with Waterbound since your 'High and Dry' CD?

All Soul's Night [Halloween] is nearly upon us so perhaps some local Souling Songs would be welcome on Wednesday night - there are several examples given in Roy Clinging's book of Cheshire Folk Songs which I've been reading again recently. Its a good book, but sadly he omits that old favourite "Chester Song at Twilight".

I'm looking forward to the Souling Songs and any songs of the supernatural (as we are close to the eve of All Hallows - can't bring myself to call it Halloween because of the links with trick or treat).
Hope to see you all there
