Subject: RE: Songs in the Snug, Lymm, Cheshire From: Bernard Date: 12 Oct 06 - 08:09 AM Ummm... well, Bob did say he wasn't able to find any comic Welsh songs, so I had to prove him wrong... -ish! |
Subject: RE: Songs in the Snug, Lymm, Cheshire From: GUEST,Alan Date: 12 Oct 06 - 07:29 AM Don't forget that we also had Cosher Bailey! |
Subject: RE: Songs in the Snug, Lymm, Cheshire From: Bernard Date: 11 Oct 06 - 07:32 PM Good oh! Hopefully we'll see you then, Ken! November 8th? We had a great evening - the 'Ballad of Lady Barnard and Little Musgrave', and 'Matty Groves' - both in the same evening!! |
Subject: RE: Songs in the Snug, Lymm, Cheshire From: mustradclub Date: 11 Oct 06 - 03:24 PM I will be in the north west early in November so I will try my best to make it to the Snug. Sorry but its unlikely I will have Peta with me. One of us has to work. Ken Hall |
Subject: RE: Songs in the Snug, Lymm, Cheshire From: Bernard Date: 11 Oct 06 - 02:19 PM I'm only a poor folk singer, guv... ! TONIGHT! Unless, of course, you missed it... |
Subject: RE: Songs in the Snug, Lymm, Cheshire From: GUEST,Alan Date: 11 Oct 06 - 01:53 PM Only a fiver Bernard? Perhaps the truth will out! See you TONIGHT |
Subject: RE: Songs in the Snug, Lymm, Cheshire From: Matthew Edwards Date: 11 Oct 06 - 01:52 PM Ken, you'd be most welcome in the Snug whenever you're up this way again - especially if you could persuade Peta to join you. However it means I'll have to stop singing "What Will We Do?", and Yvonne will have to drop "I Will Go With My Father A-Ploughing"! I'll promise to come and visit the Musical Traditions club when next in London. Matthew |
Subject: RE: Songs in the Snug, Lymm, Cheshire From: Bernard Date: 11 Oct 06 - 11:37 AM Yes, Ken, you really must! So where are you now, then? If you miss this evening, the next SitS will be Wednesday October 25th... |
Subject: RE: Songs in the Snug, Lymm, Cheshire From: mustradclub Date: 11 Oct 06 - 04:42 AM For some years I used to live opposite that pub. Must pop in next time I am down that way. Ken Hall |
Subject: RE: Songs in the Snug, Lymm, Cheshire From: Bernard Date: 11 Oct 06 - 04:35 AM Thanks, Al... the fiver's in the post! Don't forget there's a real possibility of all that beer going off if someone doesn't come along to help us sup it... erm... 'ang on, if people turned up there wouldn't be as much for us... on second thoughts, STAY AWAY!! |
Subject: RE: Songs in the Snug, Lymm, Cheshire From: GUEST,Alan Date: 11 Oct 06 - 04:21 AM Thanks for raising the thread Bernard and for reminding us that it's TONIGHT! Bernard Cromarty, for those who don't know is a fine singer of both traditional and contemptible folksong, multi instrumentalist, radio producer, recording engineer, webmaster, etc etc. In fact, if it wasn't for the quality of some of his jokes, you might be missled into the belief that there was nothing that wasn't good at. Anyway, we look forward to seeing Bernard, and all those who love traditional and traditional style folksong TONIGHT at the Railway. |
Subject: RE: Songs in the Snug, Lymm, Cheshire From: GUEST,Yvonne Date: 10 Oct 06 - 04:06 PM We manage to fit the odd song or two in between the beer, Alan. Sometimes very odd songs indeed. Looking forward to seeing you all there tomorrow night at The Railway Hotel, Heatly, Lymm, Cheshire. Yvonne |
Subject: RE: Songs in the Snug, Lymm, Cheshire From: GUEST,Alan Date: 10 Oct 06 - 07:28 AM Just got back from working away (again)so I must come down and try some of this beer you keep mentioning. By the way, do you have singing as well? |
Subject: RE: Songs in the Snug, Lymm, Cheshire From: Bernard Date: 09 Oct 06 - 05:36 PM We're short of Beer Inspectors, as it 'appens... ;0) |
Subject: RE: Songs in the Snug, Lymm, Cheshire From: John J Date: 09 Oct 06 - 05:23 PM ....did someone mention good beer? I may have to carry out a detailed Quality Control check. The Beer Inspector. |
Subject: RE: Songs in the Snug, Lymm, Cheshire From: Bernard Date: 09 Oct 06 - 10:33 AM Refresh... |
Subject: RE: Songs in the Snug, Lymm, Cheshire From: Bernard Date: 07 Oct 06 - 02:52 PM Nethen, Les, over the past few weeks we've had Hobgoblin in addition to Landlord and Black Sheep... torches are cheap enough!! Looking forward to seeing everyone there! |
Subject: RE: Songs in the Snug, Lymm, Cheshire From: Les in Chorlton Date: 07 Oct 06 - 07:00 AM All this is true and more. It's just the conflict between a great night, Timothy Taylor Landlord, Black Sheep (?) and a drive back to Manchester. We can manage by bike up the Transpennine Way in daylight but it's a bit tricky in the dark! Best of luck. Les |
Subject: RE: Songs in the Snug, Lymm, Cheshire From: Matthew Edwards Date: 07 Oct 06 - 06:58 AM Good beer, good songs, good company; what more could anyone ask for? I'll be there on Wednesday then! Matthew |
Subject: RE: Songs in the Snug, Lymm, Cheshire From: Yvonne Date: 07 Oct 06 - 05:28 AM Hey JJ --what about mentioning the beer? It is a lovely relaxed evening. Lots of songs, lots of humour and fine company. Come along and sample the atmosphere--and the beer! Yvonne |
Subject: RE: Songs in the Snug, Lymm, Cheshire From: John J Date: 06 Oct 06 - 05:45 AM Would that be the same Railway where the well known singer and multi-instrumentalist B. Cromarty Esq performs? If so then I must make the effort and make the trip. John |
Subject: Songs in the Snug, Lymm, Cheshire From: Bernard Date: 05 Oct 06 - 08:11 PM On the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month, around fifteen of us meet in the Snug at the Railway Hotel, Heatley, Lymm, Cheshire to sing traditional and traditional-style songs. It's the same pub which hosts the very popular Railway Folk Club on Thursday evenings. Check our website for any last minute changes. One of our regulars is none other than that intrepid explorer and singer/songwriter Ted Edwards, who would be delighted to see you and chat about old times! Assuming you're old enough to have old times to chat about - otherwise, chat about owt else that takes yer fancy! Most of our regulars are also Mudcatters, so maybe they'll drop in to this thread and add their two penn'orth! Stop making excuses and come along one night - we usually get under way around 9:00pm, finishing some time after 11:20pm. The pub is CAMRA listed, and has some excellent real ales on tap, with different guest beers each week. If you don't like beer (?!!), there's other stuff which may suit you... |
