Subject: RE: Swinton Folk Festival From: Dave the Gnome Date: 07 Oct 06 - 05:21 AM Ahhhh = but it's our 22nd or 23rd year and we're cheaper;-) Never mind the quality - feel the width... Looks like no-one's interested in eiter of us, Sooz so I'll refresh yours as well! Cheers DtG |
Subject: RE: Swinton Folk Festival From: Sooz Date: 07 Oct 06 - 07:41 AM Thanks Dave - we might be more expensive but we are 95% non-smoking (Only one sigaround venue lets us down!) |
Subject: RE: Swinton Folk Festival From: Dave the Gnome Date: 07 Oct 06 - 07:46 AM Aye - true. Looking forward to next year when we will all be 100% smoke free:-) |
Subject: RE: Swinton Folk Festival From: Sooz Date: 08 Oct 06 - 06:19 AM I'll second that. |
Subject: RE: Swinton Folk Festival From: MoorleyMan Date: 08 Oct 06 - 06:26 AM I'll third that. Hoping for an announcement soon re the date it's to come in. Maybe tomorrow when the bill goes to parliament we'll know more? |
Subject: RE: Swinton Folk Festival From: Mo the caller Date: 08 Oct 06 - 04:18 PM Sorry Dave, I couldn't read your website. That annoying moving heading wouldn't go away. Probably wasn't going to the festival anyway (though it is nearer than Gainsbr) but I would have read all about it |
Subject: RE: Swinton Folk Festival From: Dave the Gnome Date: 08 Oct 06 - 04:49 PM Ah well, probably just as well, Mo. People moving up and down the pub all day probably would have been too annoying:-) Cheers DtG |
Subject: RE: Swinton Folk Festival From: Richard in Manchester Date: 09 Oct 06 - 01:10 PM Dave, on the 'History' page of your website, do us a favour mate and take out the apostrophes from the word " it's " in the second and third paragraphs, where they aren't needed; throw one of them away, and put the remaining one in the word " clubs " in the last paragraph of the same page, where it most definitely is. Cheers |
Subject: RE: Swinton Folk Festival From: Dave the Gnome Date: 10 Oct 06 - 06:13 AM I would, Richard, but it is not my website! Gary, our webmaster, is quite approachable though - Contact him through the website and I will have a word with him in the meanwhile. Coming along to the festival? Buy him a couple of shots of Jack Daniels and he will be happy with anything:-) Cheers DtG |
Subject: RE: Swinton Folk Festival From: Richard in Manchester Date: 10 Oct 06 - 12:45 PM I'll buy him a copy of the ABC Guide to Basic English, and test him on it, before he gets any JD! I might well be at the festival, thanks for asking. Not been before, but Swinton's only a stone's throw away, so it's about time I made the effort. Cheers |
Subject: RE: Swinton Folk Festival From: Dave the Gnome Date: 10 Oct 06 - 04:47 PM If anyone is feeling adventurous btw go to the village music project and look under 'T' for William Tyldesley (Owd Billy Tilt) and details about a manuscript in Salfords councils possesion. Owd Billy was a fiddle player who plated at regular sessions in 'the dinnering days' at Willoughbys - Or the White Lion, Swinton! See - rooted in ancient history we are:-) Cheers DtG |
Subject: RE: Swinton Folk Festival From: Dave the Gnome Date: 10 Oct 06 - 04:48 PM Sorry - should have said under 'T' in the manuscript room. D. |
Subject: RE: Swinton Folk Festival From: Dave the Gnome Date: 12 Oct 06 - 03:15 AM I came to refresh this and the Boat Band thread and found one had 14 posts and one had 21 - How often do posts with 'Swinton' in the title go up in multiples of 7? Eh? Eh? Oh - OK, I'm sad... :D (tG) |
Subject: RE: Swinton Folk Festival From: Dave the Gnome Date: 13 Oct 06 - 02:52 AM Just a week to go:-) Any other 'catters coming? DtG |

Swinton isnt that far away from Mum and Dads to pop over for a little while........ Ans meet some Northern Catters? Cheers, lucy |

Corner of the A572 and the A6 - The Car Park is off Dorning Road if you have access to a map or GPS. I hope you make it as well - Means we have people from the far north and the far south:-) Cheers DtG |
Subject: RE: Swinton Folk Festival From: Dave the Gnome Date: 20 Oct 06 - 02:18 PM Ooooh - just remembered. If you are coming from the M60 at Worsley up the A572 you will get there but there may be diversions via the A580. And watch for the other two white animals on the 572 - Horse and Swan. We are neither of them:-) |
Subject: RE: Swinton Folk Festival From: Dave the Gnome Date: 21 Oct 06 - 02:49 AM Well, so far so good. Better than usual turn out for Friday night, especialy seeing as we had two events on! And I met a couple who actualy found the advertising I put out:-) Next update sometime tomorrow. DtG |
Subject: RE: Swinton Folk Festival From: Sooz Date: 21 Oct 06 - 03:07 AM Isn't it great when that happens? We had a brilliant first night in Gainsborough as well. Hope we both continue into a memorable weekend! |
Subject: RE: Swinton Folk Festival From: Myrtle Date: 21 Oct 06 - 05:30 AM Have a great time, say Hi to Fred Wedlock, for me, preferably in a very dodgy Wedlock accent. Bloody well missing both Swinton AND Gainsboro, due to needs of aged parents....hope someone hits the pernod for me in my absence! Big warm hugs to all and sundry, Myrtle. |
Subject: RE: Swinton Folk Festival From: folk1e Date: 22 Oct 06 - 04:50 AM Well it's nearly over now..... just the survivor's session at 12 O'clock! Diddn't look like I would survive after Friday night! Are you sure that "Double Hop" is only 5%??? Anyway just want to say Trish and I thoroughly enjoyed it!... The Festival that is..... erm i'm orf now Well done Guys |
Subject: RE: Swinton Folk Festival From: Dave the Gnome Date: 22 Oct 06 - 06:10 AM Cheers Folkie. We were up till half three at the secret venue;-) What a good concert - Fred up to his usual hilarious standard. Fiona was brilliant and what can you say about Feet in Mouths - even minus one! I'll be back there in a bit over an hour. Myrtle - Fred says hello me dearie... Cheers DtG |
Subject: RE: Swinton Folk Festival From: GUEST,Myrtle of York Date: 22 Oct 06 - 09:06 AM Cheers, Dave, I am comforting myself by drinking Mother's sherry and playing my concertina....first time the aged parents have been glad to be deaf!!! Myrtle. |
Subject: RE: Swinton Folk Festival From: the fence Date: 22 Oct 06 - 11:02 AM Rubbish Myrtle!!! and I don't mean your playing. It's time you showed off all that practice you have been doin. |
Subject: RE: Swinton Folk Festival From: Nick Date: 23 Oct 06 - 05:26 AM Thanks for the hospitality, I had an enjoyable Saturday afternoon visiting, though it got a little noisy towards the end of the afternoon. If any of you are in contact with or see Pete Ryder would you thank him from me for the CD and explain to him that the one I gave him in return is a home produced one which is a work in progress and so won't have the polish of the one that he gave me. |
Subject: RE: Swinton Folk Festival From: Dave the Gnome Date: 23 Oct 06 - 09:47 AM Will do, Nick - But Pete is on at the Club on the 6th of Novemeber. Why not come along and tell him yourself! Good to meet you on Saturday BTW. Cheers DtG |
Subject: RE: Swinton Folk Festival From: Nick Date: 23 Oct 06 - 11:14 AM I would but it's a long way to drive from North Yorkshire on a Monday evening. And you - nothing at all like a gnome by the way Out of interest is the left handed guitarist and singer (Phil?) local to you too? I thought he had a really nice voice |
Subject: RE: Swinton Folk Festival From: Dave the Gnome Date: 23 Oct 06 - 01:07 PM Phil is a local lad from Swinton but now works all over the world - Ireland at the moment. His home base is a bit nearer to you - Kirkby Lonsdale. Cheers DtG |
Subject: RE: Swinton Folk Festival From: folk1e Date: 24 Oct 06 - 12:26 PM Phil has got to be one of the best! He started the "fringe" off in the lounge at about 11 in the morning and finished at something in the following mornning! He did have a quick break for a curry at about 8pm though! It is amazing how anybody can consume Guiness like he does and still play and sing superbly. He then did a couple of hours sunday morning, and turned up fresh faced on monday (with the family) to be the guest for the folk club! And he didn't repeat himself like other acts do! Have I mentioned that I think he is O.K.? |
Subject: RE: Swinton Folk Festival From: Dave the Gnome Date: 24 Oct 06 - 04:12 PM 40% of 100! :D (tG) |
Subject: RE: Swinton Folk Festival From: Dave Wynn Date: 26 Oct 06 - 12:07 PM "If you can remember swinton festival 2006 you wern't there"!...Quote from Phil Atkinson on Sunday. I enjoyed it all except that someone rang me at home to ask what a recovery session was on Sunday Morning!!!! I said it consists of drinking until you normalise and then singing until you don't.
