"Streets Of fall River" is my favorite too, Jed. Meantime, I have some of your lyric books abandoned in my car. I can sell them and send the cash - how much?

Y'know, Jed-

There's always the possibilityof re-releasing as a CD-R. That's an ideal way of keeping stuff available with a minimum cash outlay and the ability to produce very short runs.

Thanks y'all for the kind words. I hope it can be a collector's item while I'm still alive. Some of the used ones sell for a premium?? Go figure.

Well good luck in VA, Seamus. I hope you make your benefit folks loads and loads of money! I have to tell you I've been pushing and pushing those NTIF folks to get you back. Not that it's been a hard sell, you have lots of friends among that crowd.

I have Karen Mal and Tom Leighton joining my son Jaime and me for next year at NTIF (there's a pic of the group on this page). I am looking forward to it already. I've done a few shows with Karen and we're plotting to do a few more. She's a seasoned pro; a truly fine player with a lovely voice - and she is about as pretty a woman as they make. It's been a joy working with her.

Anyway - '08 will be a damn fine NTIF!

I'll go along with Seamus and Big Mick. "Streets of Fall River" is a lovely album, because it has just enough and no more on it. The songwriting is of a standard that very few can live with.

Jed, unfortunately, the good folks in Fredericksburg and Norfolk are relying on my services, since one of the gigs is a benefit for handicapped children. Gotta do it, man!
On the bright side, I hope to see you at NTIF in 2008 (yes, I've been booked already) where I expect to be selling my old CDs as well as the recent ones!!!
Nosluap57 - please don't wish that 'valuable collectors' item' on Jed.
They'll only become valuable collectors' items when he's dead, nd we'd like him around for a while longer.

Seamus

... say, Seamus why don't you cancel those Virginia shows next weekend and come down to Lake Charles LA with us? We're more fun then those Fredericksburg and Norfolk folks!

Celtic Nations Heritage Festival should be a time. I hear Tommy Makem is poorly and won't be making the trip, sad to say. I haven't heard how serious it is.

I've been working hard on my festival dates for next year. I keep pulling up your old calendars for ideas, but it's pretty damn hard to follow in your wake! Making headway, though ...

;-)

Maybe you're right Seamus. I had thought of that, but the music has moved on from the first recording. I still sing the songs, but have new recordings of some, and will likely rerecord others over time.

I also don't want to keep up that many albums "in print." I struggle to pay for manufacturing every time - it costs three times as much to do them in small lots - so dropping STREETS also eases that burden. I have five others active, at the moment, with two waiting in the wings for release.

Some will possibly have a longer life then others. Sales have slowed now on SOUL OF A WANDERER, at least on-line (too bad, it's my favorite). The Civil War albums seem to have a life of their own (somehow) and keep selling steadily, thankfully as much via MP3, so less manufacturing costs. MILES FROM HOME is just about to cross over the 2000 mark, and I will be hard pressed to manufacture it, plus the other two that are ready for release. Thankfully it sells via MP3 too.

Too many pigs for the teats! I keep using all my sales income to live on, and so I am always on the spot when it comes time to make more!

Jed, are you crazy?
I'm still selling CDs at my gigs from 25 years ago, and people are buying them. They were recorded in analog, live, and I still sing songs from them.
As long as you do stuff rom the album at your shows, people will buy it.

Seamus

Jed,

I'm entirely with Big Mick there, even down to the choice of favourites (oh, add "Prayer from Little Round Top"..) - and I didn't get this CD first, either, I got it together with the other 3 you had available at the time. But I definitely wouldn't want my collection to be without it.

Best wishes,

Bente
PS did you get the photo CDs?

I guess that is what I am saying, Jed. As I said before, the production values might be better, but the songcraft is as good as it gets. The songs I mentioned, as well as others on this CD, are phenomenal. You don't need to sell me on Paul Mills productions, he is, IMO, as good as it gets. But there is no need to sell that first CD short. It is you, top to bottom, and anyone who is interested in your music does not have the definitive collection without it. It hails to the folk world of things to come.

Just my two cents worth.

Mick

Bill - I hope you pass those off as collector's items! And I hope they make a buck or two for the FSGW coffers.

Thanks Mick, for the kind words - but the Millstream produced CDs are head and shoulders above the rest ... ain;t no doubt. That doesn't chnage my love for the music on the others, but the truth is plain.

I've put SOUL OF A WANDERER (the song, not the whole album) up on my Myspace Profile and I've okay'd free downloads of the MP3. I absolutley love this track and it has got Paul Mills production written all over it. Not to discount my own part or the stunning fiddle parts by Brian McNeill - but Paul masterfully pulled an simple elegant production. Many layered but simple ... I amazed when I listen to it now. I almost forget its mine.

You are wrong, buddy. Maybe the production values were of a higher quality later, but that first CD is one of my very favorites. The songwriting and performance is as strong as anything you have done since. This was the CD that told me that I had to get to know you. When I think of songs like Fighting Tigers of Ireland, Look Ahead Tommy, Sweet Ellen Joyce, and Streets of Fall River, I realize what a force you are. It was on this CD that one first heard those marvelous guitar stylings. Yeah, this CD is as good as any you have ever done, buddy.

Folks, if you have heard Jed's music and liked what you heard, then jump all over this CD. This one has classics, and really express the essence of this man. He is a very close friend of mine, so there is some bias. But when I pull back and look at him with a pro's eyes, I know that his music will long survive him. Don't miss a chance to get a copy of this music.

All the best,

Mick

Jed...we still have some from 'those days long ago' when you sent some for the Getaway. Want 'em? Shall we keep putting them out at the Getaway? I think there are 9...

I couldn't let these go without posting it here; my first album, STREETS OF FALL RIVER is now out of print.

Several thousand copies of the album and MP3 tracks have been sold all over the world since Aug 2000. The last three copies are available at CDBaby. Used copies of the album appear from time-to-time on Ebay and various on-line auctions.

As I told a music friend recently, I am sure that my later albums are better, but I must admit I still love this one. Thanks to everyone who bought this album. I hate to see it go, but it's had a long and fruitful life!
