The first of two 1-hour programmes titled "Leon Rosselson - My life as a songwriter" is currently airing on Radio Britfolk, with part 2 to follow next week.

I have a vested interest, as I recorded, edited and produced both shows (but all the content is Leon's). But Leon did some excellent preparation and selection of songs and the show is most informative, and not only about his progression as a songwriter; he is also an excellent chronicler of times and events from the late 50s to today. I recommend a listen-in unreservedly.

If his name means little to you, you might remember "Little Jim McGuire", or "Across the hills", or "The world turned upside down" (the Diggers' song); though he has written many more and even better songs IMHO. Some 20 of his best songs are included in the two programmes, together with an erudite commentary on their background and circumstances that spawned them.

Not forgetting 'Don't Get Married, Girls'!! And the very thought-provoking 'Monsters', all about bullying.

Nice one, George - an excellent programme. I listened to it after listening to Ali O'Brien's 'Sounds of Folk'... erm... did I mention I'm the producer of that one? Hee hee!

Keep up the good work, Mister P!

Was he the one who used to say "He's fallen in the water!"?
