Subject: Lyr Add: WASTED DAYS AND WASTED NIGHTS (F Fender) From: Jim Dixon Date: 21 Aug 13 - 10:43 PM Since this is the only thread about Freddy Fender, I might as well post this here then: WASTED DAYS AND WASTED NIGHTS As recorded by Freddy Fender, 1959. 1. Wasted days and wasted nights I have left for you behind, For you don't belong to me, Your heart belongs to someone else. 2. Why should I keep loving you, When I know that you're not true? And why should I call your name, When you're to blame for making me blue? 3. Don't you remember the day That you went away And left me? I was so lonely, Prayed for you only, My love. REPEAT 2, 3, 2 |
Subject: RE: Obit: Freddy Fender, Tex-Mex singer (Oct. 14, 06) From: GUEST,guest, NJ teacher Date: 10 May 07 - 01:05 PM Aine, I am posting here b/c the thread I found was so old that I didn't know if you would get the message... I recently came across a Melody Flute and I was wonering if it would be possible to track the age of it through the serial number. Do you still have yours and is there any way to find a manufacture date for these things? Thanks NJ teacher |
Subject: RE: Obit: Freddy Fender, Tex-Mex singer (Oct. 14, 06) From: Ron Davies Date: 16 Oct 06 - 10:43 PM I think it's "Then I wish you both the best" (not all the best), but I'm pretty sure, aside from that, Guest has it right. But I can't take any credit (or blame) for translation ( or mistranslation) of Mick's eulogy. I'm sure he's much better in Spanish than I am. And I still would like some help, if possible, with the Spanish verse to Wild Side of LIfe. I have most of it--resurrected the thread again. Thanks. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Freddy Fender, Tex-Mex singer (Oct. 14, 06) From: Genie Date: 16 Oct 06 - 04:18 PM OK, I see I got one part wrong, but I was close. Guest, thank you so much for posting those lyrics. From having heard Freddy sing the song many times but not having the Spanish lyrics in front of me, every time I try to wing it, the Spanish verse tends to morph into: "Si mi queras escribir ... Which is a whole nuther song. Genie |
Subject: RE: Obit: Freddy Fender, Tex-Mex singer (Oct. 14, 06) From: Genie Date: 16 Oct 06 - 04:12 PM I'm going to post this first and then read Ron's translation to see how close I came. I understand Spanish a little but am not even close to being fluent. But when you use the online translators, you have to apply your own knowledge of idioms to make sense of the weirdnesses those "translators" often spew. Here's what I came up with, from WorldLingo's Online Translator coupled with my knowledge of several Romance languages plus English. Dear Mr. Baldemar Orchard, On the occasion of your leaving this earth, we want to congratulate you on a job well done! You took music of your youth and your people, and told the world how proud they should be you were a part of them. You made people smile, and with your music, you made this earth a better place. You will be missed here, but be happy to know that you will surely be in very good musical company. When it is your turn to sing, be sure to do it in Spanish. May God be good to you. (Now I'll go see how close that was.) LOL |
Subject: RE: Obit: Freddy Fender, Tex-Mex singer (Oct. 14, 06) From: GUEST Date: 16 Oct 06 - 01:46 AM jusr for Genie ... If he brings you happiness, Then I wish you all the best. It's your happiness that matters Most of all. But if he ever breaks your heart, If the teardrops ever start, I'll be there Before the next teardrop falls. Si te quiere de verdad, Y te da felicidad, Te deseo lo mas bueno pa' los dos. Pero si te hace llorar, A mi me puedes hablar. Y estare contigo cuando triste estas. I'll be there Anytime you need me By your side To dry away Any teardrops that you cry. And if he ever leaves you blue, Just remember - I love you. And I'll be there Before the next teardrop falls. I'll be there Before the next teardrop falls. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Freddy Fender, Tex-Mex singer (Oct. 14, 06) From: Genie Date: 16 Oct 06 - 01:03 AM Ron (Davies), Can you please post the lyrics to the Spanish verse Freddy did to "Teardrops?" I don't know why, but I've had a hard time finding them when I google the song and ask for them. Thanks, Genie |

Subject: RE: Obit: Freddy Fender, Tex-Mex singer (Oct. 14, 06) From: Big Mick Date: 15 Oct 06 - 09:00 PM Yeah, Ron, some folks will try anything to take a shot. If you spoke instead of using translators, you would know that I am saying something close to: Dear Mr. Baldemar Huerta (Freddy Fender's real name), On the occasion of your leaving this earth, I would like to take the opportunity to say, "good job". You took the music of your youth, and of your people, and you let the world know how proud you were to be what you are. You did it with a smile, and the world is a better place for your being here. We will miss you here, but know that you will be in great musical company. When it is your turn to sing, don't forget the verses in Spanish. God be good to him, Mick That isn't an exact translation, but it is close. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Freddy Fender, Tex-Mex singer (Oct. 14, From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 15 Oct 06 - 08:51 PM I saw Freddy play a concert a few years ago. It was long after his big hits and the crowd was rather small. If I recall he only had a couple of back up musicians, and I don't think he was enjoying great health. In any case he still put on a good show, and he sang all of his big hits. I would have loved to see him under better circumstances. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Freddy Fender, Tex-Mex singer (Oct. 14, 06) From: Ron Davies Date: 15 Oct 06 - 11:41 AM What a shame he's gone--and that's pretty young, too. I sing "Before the Next Teardrop Falls" every day--love the Spanish verse especially. And Jan loves the song. It's so great that he sang bilingually. I have the CD by that title--and there are some Spanish verses to "After the Fire Is Gone" and "Wild Side of Life" that I've been trying to get. I even started a thread for help on it--and I have most of the words now--but still missing a few. Maybe I'll resurrect the thread. Also, Peace, those are delightful videos. The Texas Tornados are a GREAT band--I've loved Flaco Jimenez for a long time. Do you know how I could buy the video "Who Were You Thinking Of?"--that one was just wonderful. I've tried to do it through i-Tunes. It seems they only offer big-name stars. Which Freddie, unfortunately, hasn't been for a while. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Freddy Fender, Tex-Mex singer (Oct 06) From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 14 Oct 06 - 08:07 PM Sorry to hear about his death. He did much to bring the country's attention to the music of the Hispanic southwest. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Freddy Fender, Tex-Mex singer (Oct 06) From: catspaw49 Date: 14 Oct 06 - 07:33 PM I liked him for whatever that's worth. A very pure voice and he filled a niche. He left behind a great many renditions that marked himas the artist he truly was, but as with many others, had he only done one (in his case, "Before the Next Teardrop Falls") it would have been enough and without it the genre would have been lessened. Subject: RE: Obit: Freddy Fender, Tex-Mex singer (Oct 06) From: M.Ted Date: 14 Oct 06 - 07:29 PM A great talent--he brought tex-mex/norteno music out of the shadows and into the mainstream--and never moved away from his roots--if anything, the most recent stuff he did, with The Texas Tornados, an Los Super Seven, emphasized the roots. He was always a combination of rock and roll and norteno music, and that makes him a folk/traditional performer, and, one of the most successful--he'll really be missed-- |

Subject: RE: Obit: Freddy Fender, Tex-Mex singer From: Genie Date: 14 Oct 06 - 06:24 PM He was born Baldemar Huerta. I guess Freddy Fender has a better "commercial" ring to it. There's even a special model guitar made for him called the "Freddy" (by Fender). I enjoyed Freddy's music. Sad he'd had so many health problems. |
